Free stay in our RV for one or two.

Post by Cemerdem » Tue Jul 01, 2014 11:27 am

We took over an RV booking, leaving San Francisco on the 23rd, returning on the 3rd. The booking requires international drivers license and passport, which we don't have. If you have it, you can stay in our RV for free. We have room for one or two more people. Email me at cem at cemerdem dot com.

Huh? Why would an RV company require an international driver's license and passport?

I tried to follow the cemerdem dot com and arrived at a domain for sale.
Okay. Then I checked the DMV and read this about International Drivers Licenses-
" The following requirements and restrictions apply:
You must carry both your IDP and your driver’s license when driving abroad.
You must obtain your IDP in the same country that issued your driver’s license.
You can never use your IDP to drive in the country in which it was issued.
It is valid for up to 1 year (provided your driver’s license is valid for the full year)."

So, if someone from the US got an International Drivers License in the US, they would not need, not could they use it here in the US.

Not that I was looking at selling out my principles for a ride in the RV if things go my way, mind you..........

By the way; Are you visiting the US from abroad? Maybe this is the reason the RV place required an International License. Have you been to the Burn before? You may want to think out a few scenarios that would disqualify a potential driver, like, do they have a clean driving record? Do they wear pants while driving? Etc.

Best of luck, generous offer.

I'm giving this a nudge over to the Share Resources board, since that's a better fit for ride and RV shares.

You may want to check with the rental company and see if an international driver's license and passport is required of US citizens. Good luck!

I'm US citizen and have a US license. My girlfriend is Brazilian but doesn't have a drivers license. I took over two tickets and this RV booking from someone abroad. Then found out the RV company requires a non US resident/license for the rental (I know it's stupid but they don't budge). So if someone from outside US is looking for accommodation, we'll share our RV for free with one or two others as long as they have a drivers license from another country.

This still doesn't make sense to me, but okay.

Maybe she should get a Brazilian D/L before coming here. Just a suggestion.

My guess is your reservation is still tagged as "foreign", you may want to call and make sure, when they changed to your name, they also changed "country of residence" or some such.

I have a Canadian friend that is currently looking for a ride and has a valid CDN license.
PM me and I'll try and put you guys in touch, see if something works out?

I know you guys are coming out of SF, but shes desperate and may be willing to fly in, etc.

Unfortunately the RV company treats Canadians the same way. Has to be someone with drivers license other than US or Canada.

Yeah that's not happening. She doesn't know how to drive and lives on the beach in Costa Rica with no need to drive.

Is it too late for you to cancel this reservation and book with another company?

I'll lose the deposit plus it will be impossible to find an RV like this anywhere close to BM within 5 states at this point.

My roommate and I are flying in to SFO from Boston and would love to share the RV with you guys if it's still available. We have international drivers licenses (from El Salvador) but there may be some restrictions in terms of age (we are 23, 24) - Most RV companies require you be at least 25 to rent.

You may want to ask for a "foreign driver" instead of "someone with an international DL".
And they WILL let you drive the RV. You'll just have to pay the higher rate for US residents, that's all.

I can get a international drivers license easily in the uk. Just seen online
I already have a full drivers license.

I would love to share the Rv with you guys.

I also used to live in Brazil and really love it there.

I am travelling solo through america for two months after burning man.
I am looking for some nice people to share an RV with for the festival.

Really hope to hear from you guys and help you out with this.

My wife is from Australia with an international drivers license! She and I plus my best friend, Lorenzo, are in need of people to stay with in an RV! If we go to B.M. this year, it will be our 10th burn. We are artists, fun, easy going, neat, considerate, love to cook and 420 friendly. If you are still looking for people, please call me ASAP at 818-915-9944. Thanks!
