The Next Best Thing To Burning Man 2014

Post by kowtow » Wed Jul 09, 2014 5:08 pm

Day one of a new and improved America, or at least new and improved Washington State.

My first state approved purchase of recreational MJ. Unfortunately the state taxes it to death, so the price is 2x what the street prices are. While it may be my first and last state approved purchase, it sure felt great to buy it legally from a store!!! Now it's back to the underground for me. 8)

That's pretty cool, not gonna lie. I've put my cannabis days behind me, but I really want to make the drive on up to Washington just for the amusement. Walking into a STORE? What?!

My next best thing.... Hmm.... well, I've never been in better shape in my entire life! 50 miles a week on my bicycle has done wonders for myself... and my butt.

Congrats on the biking! I used to be an avid cyclists (cough) some 30 years ago... Would love to get back into it and it looks like you're really making it pay off!!! Kudos!

They have those in CA as well. It's kinda weird going in one, it feels like a sting operation or something to me....LOL
Way too expensive tho.....

Well they don't "really" have those in CA, since only WA and CO have legal recreational herb. They have dispensaries where you can take your medical card and purchase said herbs, but in this state I can take my asian in-laws there just to smoke a couple j's. It's like way past time this happened. Not to get too political, but there just ain't a lot of stoned mofo's slamming into people at 100mph. There may be a few who have scraped the wall at the Taco Bell drive-thru but that's about it.

It felt the same when they did away with state-run liquor stores in Wa recently too. I'm still not used to seeing booze right there at Safeway. As cool as it seemed like it might be, in reality it kinda sucks. They tax it like crazy, and selection has gone to shit. There are now a few liquor/beer/wine "superstores" that are HUGE and have almost everything but in general the local stores are only carrying the most mainstream stuff.
I run trucks and cranes for a living and I come under federal regulation for drug testing, so the "420" is still strictly off-limits in my world. I'm allowed to be hung over while dangling a few tons of stuff over people's heads, as long as I register 0.00, but I can't have a trace of THC from two weekends ago.

I may have to come up to Seattle on a business training in Sept. Can't wait to into a store and buy, as long as non residents are able to do so. But if prices remain high it will be more for the novelty than the high...mostly :?:
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Ya isn't that crazy shit. You can't have weed in your system in any amount after 30 days, even though your "high" wears off as quickly as being drunk, only there isn't the fuckin' hangover. In time, if this experiment in legalization takes hold, those out of date laws will have to change. In our fine state of WA now you can have pot in your system as long as you aren't over the legal limit of 5 nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood. At some point that has to follow suit for the CDL and yes even heavy machinery operators.

Definitely a novelty at this point. At 2x street prices it will definately keep me out of the store. Right now 85% of the pot revenue goes to taxes. In one aspect I'm good with that. Once the state gets "ginned up" on the revenue they won't be able to afford to "un-legalize" weed. I was speaking with a recreational store owner from Woodland and he's the one who told me about the 85% in taxes: 25% tax on growers, 25% tax on processors, 25% tax on retailers and the remaining 10% is paid by the consumers. But still, it's fuckin' cool to walk into the weed shop that's right next to a Starbucks and by a few grams of MJ.

Okay, Street Vibrations looks really fuckin' cool. Last time I was in Virginia City it was after visiting the Ponderosa Ranch and there weren't any street vibrations going on back then. Okay I hope I'm not dating myself there.

Apparently it's a thing. Crane operators and doggers use hand signals and whistles to communicate. I'm pretty sure it comes from sailing. Certainly the reason it is considered bad luck to whistle on stage in a theatre is because in the past often the riggers and flymen would be out of work sailors and they might mistake your jaunty tune for a set of instructions. I've only ever noticed whistles being used on a construction site once and I've often wondered if it's still a thing or if it's been replaced by some sort of radio or phone technology.

And it's kinda scary that the Reno FD can have a BA of .08 while on duty.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports a more than decade old policy allows Reno firefighters to work as long as their blood alcohol content is not over .08 percent, the legal limit for driving. The same policy permits marijuana, amphetamine and cocaine use. According to reporter Anjeanette Damon, the cut off for marijuana is five times the legal limit for driving and it is twice the legal limit for amphetamines and cocaine.
I remember the article in the newspaper a few weeks ago.

It'd have be at least 10 years ago since the ranch closed.

In CO out-of- staters can possess up to a 1/4 ounce, which is what the stores will sell one. Nothing to stop one from visiting multiple stores if they want to risk it. ID needs to be shown but it's not recorded (apart from video evidence) I've also seen nothing on edible thresholds, and I haven't seen any seeds on any menu, clones, yes, but seeds, no.

From what I've read it's a bit spendy but not quite as bad as WA. In Co, many stores have a two tier pricing, medicinal aside, one for "Regulars" (think supermarket savings cards) and one for walk-ins.

I believe in both Wa and Co the distributors have to grow what they sell and due to the timing of the licensing process there isn't copious amounts for sale initially in Wa. I read one distributor had a total of two lbs to sell at the get go. Start-up pains. It will be interesting to see if prices will come down as stock rises to meet the demand.

There are ancillary businesses that go along with it, apart from edibles there is a growing mj tourism thing going on. If I didn't have ties out east I'd think about getting in on some of these things. As one would expect not all the entrepreneurs on the ground floor are stoners.

I haven't cracked it as yet but the current issue of HT mag focuses on the CO scene.

I did read rave reviews about one shop where 2 out of 3 reference the quite attractive nubile "budtenders" (as much as I appreciate inventing words and language play I DO hate that word). Their prices are a bit higher but so are drinks in "gentlemen's clubs" (or so I've been told). If I ever decided to visit one of the shops it wouldn't be that one, make up your mind, you looking to cop some weed or a feel?

I've also heard rumors that Co plates are getting additional scrutiny at bordering states but it smacks of urban myth to me.

I may or may not have more info when I return from out west.

There's some stretches of Wyoming that people are getting a little more attention than they used to, but the cops can't pull every single CO plate over.

I'm more concerned that this year the LEOs will take WA and CO plates as probable cause for more intensive search practices at Burn.

I tried to find the story online, they did one in which the UHP said they had not seen an increase in pot coming into Utah from CO, rather an increase of larger quantities coming in from CA en route to CO. They're more concerned with fireworks on an individual level. Fire season.

Remember, only one stupid/illegal thing at a time.
