Definitely cool stuff Sadie!
Making it work _by myself_ is one of the biggest rewards.
What depth of discharge are you targeting for your normal use?

Campesino, we will have coffee, a gennie, and someone with electrical chops. Bring all the parts that don't fit - and extra wire...
Nice to have a go at it!

Re: Work In Progress 2014
The trike I'm building kept throwing the chain.. I had to mill a shaft free hand.. It made the sprocket ever so slightly wobble.. The ten speed chain thought it was supposed to change gears... Have to install a idler (a.k.a.) a stick of wood.. rube goldburg at it's finest.
I'm the contraptioneer your mother warned you about.
Re: Work In Progress 2014
All the components are working for the subwoofers, and red eye skull pipe speakers. 2 separate amps, one for the sub, and one for the pipes. Splitting the source and running it to some pots to give volume control and balance between the sub and speakers. It's playing loud at half volume, not getting hot, from a 2 amp 12V source, which is a surprise to me. Running from a battery is going to work. The little speaker under the skull (whose eyes flash to the music when the volume is high) is one of three for the small simulated foghorns, hopefully I can tune a nice chord. Now comes the hard part, and part I haven't really planned out yet: Making the case/trike box, where everything is neatly enclosed... (Wha? could happen!)

In my opinion, Ratty's "use what you have" method isn't specific to clothing/playawear.

Re: Work In Progress 2014
That's really nice Ygmir. Is there a specific reason/person/event you created this stone to memorialize, or just a tribute to PGE in general?

Re: Work In Progress 2014
thanks guys.
yeah, JK, it's sort of a "to the unknown" sort of monument. To those PGE members lost, but wider, to Burners Lost, .....those who go or are gone without any real notice. Not specific, on purpose, so all are welcome, all are honored.

Re: Work In Progress 2014
There's some nice work here.
I've not been around for quite some time. Default BS has kept me away for several years and I'm trying to force-feed it back into my sphere of influence. I've been spending a lot of time making stuff. Furniture, mostly. Some other things here and there. I'm also working on bringing a product to market; hopefully before the end of the year but more likely the 1st quarter '15. But I'm usually thinking about building stuff for the playa, while I'm working on something else. When I gather materials, the playa is always a part of the consideration whether or not they end up used for something to go there. On that point I am rapidly running out of storage space.
I laughed at Trilobyte's comment about "You can tell we're Burners because of the box contents"; it occurred to me that were I that organized I, too, would give away my affinity. As it stands, I've just got shit everywhere.
I really regretted not being able to get out there these past few years as I had jumped on board discussions for creating 'The Pier', when they first started up and was quite psyched at the possibility of being able to build it. Alas....
Last time, our camp took an art car, and I really want to do it again next time, albeit on a smaller scale (read: golf cart or an econo-box chassis such as a Geo Metro, etc). And just a couple of days ago, I had an idea for a deep playa installation (if not a camp). So, the cauldron is always cooking. Like today, when I checked out a late-40's Ford pickup parked at a local business a couple of miles away; dude has rebuilt the back bed with a solid frame and stake-holding setup, and I just stood there thinking about how I could build a box on the back to take to the playa. I might not get to sleep tonight, for thinking about it.
I've procured a separate sketchbook dedicated to art car brainstorming 'cause the other one has furniture and other designs in it. Nothing too fancy (art car ideas, not the sketchbook), as I'll likely be flying solo from first hammer drop to Exodus, so the timeframe/labor/ability to actually execute something will undermine the technical competency and complexity.
Anyway, here's a couple pics of the last piece I recently sold: a buffet/sideboard made from boards of a shipping crate to a Boulder drugstore that's been out of business for about 40 years, with top/sides/shelves made from a bookcase from the deceased drugstore owner's now-demolished ranch house in NoBo. Went to the Carnegie branch in town and found the entire history of the guy, which really added to the piece. Made the door pulls from a salvaged leather couch by the road on the east side of town.
So...yeah. Here's me. Trying to get rolling again.

Re: Work In Progress 2014
silly playa rats... it's Tin... as in, the metal...
This is Tim. Thank you, re: the buffet. It was almost a year to the day between when I first drew the concept and when I finished rubbing the last coat of oil on it before loading it in the car. And it was a few months before that to let the boards tell me what to do with them.
After all that time and energy it's weird to think that it's sitting in some strangers' house and I'll never get to see it again.

Hi all,
I worked on these earlier this year. Not sure where I should make their debut at though yet.
