Tonight is one of the very few times that I just have to step away from eplaya - horrified by a few of the posts. I know it's the internet, but come on community!

I couldn't watch it. Just seeing the screenshot was too much for me. I hope it stays down, and I hope whatever peace he was looking for was found.

When you consider what a large slice (ouch! probably the wrong word) of eplayans have struggled with depression during their time here, or else in earlier parts fo their lives (I'm not naming names because I've forgotten many of them, and can't remember which of those I remember were in confidence and which were on open board, Elliot actually stands here as a class act for his openness on the subject), you think we'd do better...

No, we expelled them in a great purge 10 years ago. Which is why no one's posted on this thread.

So true. It saddens me every time that we don't reach out to our fellow burners in need. The problem for me is one of timing...knowing WHEN to step up and ask if they need help. Sometimes they don't want it because they have it 'figured out'. Sometimes they haven't reached a point where they will accept help. But sometimes you can give a hug, a smile, or just good advice at the right time and it's like a flower opening up, stunning in the beauty revealed from inside.

Rhino
Depression is a nasty, nasty disease, and people can suffer for years and look perfectly functional. We can cover our tracks well. (Not me so much, but others can.) And while a hug or a kind word can make things a little better, it's not an easy disease to treat, and most of us simply don't have the wherewithal to tackle it successfully. Yes, it leaves a big hole that you frantically wish you could fill. But make no mistake--this takes more than ranger training.

I know.

in '08, Burningman was my last hope. Everything changed as a result, and I now know how to live with myself, as well as the rest of the world.

The journey continues.

The restraint I have shown in not posting... it almost physically hurts.

I know I am a fairly new addition to this collection of humans, but even as oblivious as I am, I can spot a pot stirrer when I see one. You flounced. Now your suddenly back for this?! F you and your speculation.

This topic is a tender spot for quite a few reasons. I will continue to refrain from losing my cool. My final thought... support and love. This is all we need to be dishing out right now.

There's no shortage of people who will help build stuff on-playa. And the one who gets to make up the creative ideas is the one who is doing the goddamm project. Hey, does anyone need me to help tell them what they should build?
There IS a shortage of people who will transport large quantities of building materials!
But it's all about giving... hey, somebody give me something! Something really expensive!

Ugh. Couldn't help it. Good job redacting yourself, Yggy.
