Nevada plate requirements for trailers?

Post by captain voltaveus » Mon Jul 14, 2014 2:36 am

The laugh-ability of my plan to bring 5 fully furred, chopped, basketed, and generally totally pimped out playa bikes on my Yakima hitch rack is becoming painfully clear. I've had a few friends in Oregon offer to lend me their trailers to haul bikes, but in Oregon trailers do not require a plate. My initial search on the NV DMV site indicates that they do in NV. Anyone know this might draw unwanted attention from LEO and if they use this as an excuse to pull you over if you have an out of state vehicle pulling a trailer with no plate? The one we are thinking about pulling is highway rated and has functional lighting...

Thanks!

Everyone is so politically fucked up that they're segregating themselves in the name of equal rights and liberation.

might I suggest you not do or carry things that would break laws or get you in trouble?

That said, since the LEO will probably not be able to see the rear plate, and if you have no plate on the trailer, it's reasonable they'd pull you over to see "what's up".

you might put some sort of identifier on the back of the trailer, so they know you are from OR:
"Go Ducks" or some such, and perhaps they'd figure it out.

Good luck.

I'm mounting the plate on the hatch of the van.. It will be visible over the trailer load.. Also mounting towing light with the plate.. Tow light are cheap.. Also putting tow lights on the fenders of the trailer along with the trailer lights will total eight tail and signal lights in the rear..
I'm the contraptioneer your mother warned you about.
