Time for a Happy Thread

The RV I'm borrowing from a friend was sitting on empty. I saw this morning that gas is down to 3.22 a gallon here In Indianapolis so during lunch I ran over to his place and got the rv filled up!

A week ago it was hovering around 3.89 per gallon and the RV holds 80 gallon a fill up.

Sadly I doubt it's going to get much cheaper the closer we get to Labor day.

4300 miles round trip. 8mpg. This burning man experience better be worth it!!

My trip was about as long as yours, very much worth it.

My flights from Sydney cost $1500 and as the crow flies my camp is 7,600 miles from my house, one way. I WIN

Total travel time from SYD to SFO is 20 hrs 45mins but a not insignifiant amount of that will be spent at LAX

We had to cut our trip to New Zealand and Australia short in February due to a fractured wrist that needed an operation. We flew from Melbourne to Sydney to LA and then on home to Reno. Well over 35 hours. The worst part was in LAX. The temp brace that my wife had on her wrist triggered for explosive residue. We had two explosive experts, supervisors, etc. - quite an experience. Luckily for us the brace was removable to be tested else we wouldn't have gotten to fly. I have got to say the TSA did their job very professionally.

geospyder, at least it wasn't Berlin. Early explosive 'sniffers' were keyed differently, to nitrates. A bank courier from the U.S got tackled by the German authorities and searched. He had a locked briefcase handcuffed to him, and despite his protests, the authorities contacted the bank for the key. The bank supervisor came to the airport, they opened the briefcase, and found........

a pound of applewood-smoked US bacon. It was the source of the nitrates.

Glad that the TSA did their job professionally.

I was at a garage sale trying to explain TTITD to 2 ladies with an open mind and a guy that had it all wrong. I finally gave up and went to the liquor store. 6 pk Blue Moon, 6 pk. Lagunitas, bag of ice for cooler. Here. A gift. This is burning Man. Maybe they got it. Maybe not. This is how BM changes us. (Insert happy face icon here).

Nitrates get a lot of false positives. Think of lawn fertilizer on golfer's shoes and the chemicals that bowlers use to clean their bowling balls. I am one of those people that get to covertly test the TSA. I'm not TSA but with another agency. That's why I said that they did their job professionally. I knew what they were supposed to do. One of the hardest things at that time was just being one of the passengers and keeping my mouth shut

A few years ago we drove 4 hours to SFO just to watch a Lufthansa A380 take off. Very impressive sight.

Well it's a pretty great airport for perving. I don't think I've ever seen a more picturesque view of an airport than from the balcony of a house fondly known as Milbrae Manor that American Boyfriend used to hang out at a lot.

Late last week had one of the people in camp have to back out because his doctoral program funding was severely trimmed. The camp pitched in and had him sorted out in under a day. Today the same thing happened with another young lady who sent her regrets as family financial issues were keeping her from being able to attend. Same story but this time it only took two hours to raise the $500 needed.

I got a raise today! It's not much, only %4 but it's better than nothing. At least there's movement.......

My employer approved reinstating our raises so I'll get mine on my start date November 2014, just before Thanksgiving. They even approved us getting OT by working our days off, which I've taken advantage of since June.
