I am all prepared to bring 8 empty 5 gal. plastic containers to fill with water as I get closer to BRC.
However, some time ago, I think that read on e-playa where someone mentioned a "Suitcase of Water" What is this? How many gal.? Are they round or squareish? Are these readily available out west and what type of stores?
The last legs of my route of travel will be from Albuquerque-Las Vegas-Fernley.

How long are you going to be on playa for? 40 gallons is a lot. I believe the survival guide recommends 1.5 gallons per person per day, so even if you're there all week you probably won't need nearly that much. Walmart sells big square jugs with spigots that are 7 gallons.
The playa isn't "home" to anything or anyone, it's not magic, it's just a goddamm camping trip. A really awesome one. -Captain Goddammit

The "Suitcase" is a rectangular 2.5 gallon plastic container with a plastic spout. Disposable (Please Recycle). Roughly 6 x 12 x 24 inches. It stacks well. Every grocery store on the way will have them.
It is convenient in both space usage and can be lifted by practically anyone without living with a hernia. Gravity feed makes life easy.
Only drawback is that it is too large for lugging around on the Playa. Having a couple 1 gallon jugs fro that is a good strategy.
Highly recommended.

Thanks for the information.
We don't have that type of container for purchased water over this way - only one gal. jugs.
Must be a product that is more common in the western states.

Re: "Suitcase of Water"..... ?
A couple suitcases of water fit in a milk crate. We use them for drinking/kitchen water. We also bring gallon jugs for easy handling, and fill an orange water dispenser with a gallon of water and a bag of ice for cool drinking. We also bring a five gallon (or two) for random water use (misters, sprayer shower), and we cycle our melted cooler water into foot baths and the bucket swamp cooler. Diversification is key. If you contaminate or puncture one of your bigger containers, you won't be screwed and have the smaller units to fall back on.

In my trailer, stackable (conservation of available space) is the operative word.
Smaller units, but in stackable containers make good sense. Thank you.

Here is a pic of the 2.5 gallon container. I sometimes have problems with these getting seam holes when stacked and manhandled too much, then leaking. But it's my camp go to.
