Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Thanks, Patsh... for me it really all comes together over time. That's how my first burn went, too - the campmates who showed me pointed out how it was much easier to manage everything you had to do (and all the expense) if you did a little bit at a time.
I realized I probably wasn't going to get to the other playawear things I wanted to make for this year, so I splurged a bit and got a pair of pants, shirt, and cravat to add to my wardrobe.
Today was also my big shade order day. I've never had a shade structure fail, and everything I've designed is actually still all coming to the playa in one form or another... but I keep expanding and growing my plans each year. So, more fittings and some new tarps (one new big one, and replacements for some that had been on the playa several times and are ready for retirement).

Oh, and I slow cooked 15 servings of pulled pork for sliders on the night I'm cooking at camp. Now in the freezer until then.EmilyD wrote:Tickets, tickets, TICKETS!! We got our tickets today!! !

And you're what - going to try to attach the 3-battery pack to the spokes / hub somehow? Have you tried something like this before? I'm worried that the battery pack couldn't be secured well enough, and it'd come off mid-ride somewhere in the deep playa, winding up all the wire in the hub and making a big mess of things. Or, the batteries themselves will simply fall out of the container.TT120 wrote:More battery powered LED's. One string is the perfect length to go around the inside of a bicycle wheel.
How are you attaching the power??

I duct taped the battery pack to the hub inside the spokes. It turns very slowly there and shouldn't be a problem. If it comes loose, I'll just have to do some Playa repair.....

Well there ya go. Duct tape to the rescue. Thanks!tatonka wrote:I duct taped the batt pack to the spokes , had no batts fall out .
I'll try a couple of zip ties, put them close to the hub (so there's little centrifugal force), and reinforce with duct tape.
Did you get yours from RTGS?
And, anybody want to recommend their favorite source for (cheap but quality) EL-wire?

Suitcases of water, juice boxes and pouches (freeze the pouches), mixers, electrolytes.

AntiM, I got a cool piece of art for the trip. In theme too. I may have to make my old AntiM t-shirt into a applique or moop bag. (It got a lot of use in the past couple of years.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Printed my 3 page "To Do" list out from MS OneNote, and worked out the travel schedule for the week of the burn. Spent the last two days (and more money than I wanted to) making sure I had all the important bits ordered for projects. Driving to Vegas this weekend with mixed feelings of stress over losing 3 days of prep time, and relief that I'll be forced to take a break from prepping.

Several things going on in my world..
got a stereo for the van that will play cd's and has a plug in for the ipod...(I have a low tolerance for radio commercials)
got the kitchen crate reduced down to a reasonable collection of pots/pans etc.
started the jigsaw puzzle of packing - using the D lot approach - first in, last out.
have had the opportunity to practice tuning out unwanted noise this week.
A kids theatre camp is in house from 9 - 3 every day, rehearsing for their big show Friday night - there are about 40 of them
AND a street crew is working on the intersection 30 yards from my office door which involved a giant circular saw all day yesterday - it made this sound: NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
and today they have been using a jack hammer. It sounds like this: KAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKAKA.
Fun times.!

I'm getting a costume hand made from England.. it's pretty epic. I don't want to go into detail about it, but it comes with a custom made vest and I ask her to embroider the burning man logo somewhere on it.
She seemed really stoked to do that for me.. so.. yeah... that's pretty cool.

Today is the day. I just pulled out the dusty pile. I'm going to put up shelves and put it away neatly so I can sort, shop and check lists. It smells marvelous.

Nice big heavy duty silver tarp arrived today. Also made a trip to Harbor Freight and picked up some solar LED lights (for the bike and the tent), bungee cords, a super bright, tiny LED light that can hook onto things, and a set of assorted caribiners. Then I stopped by our discount grocery store (they sell super cheap brand name food in boxes that are battered and broken - although the inner sealed pouch is still intact). Got assorted breakfast options, some coconut water, granola bars, shelf stable pre-cooked dinners for those nights where you just can't face actually cooking anything etc.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Mailed extra tickets and vehicle pass to Canadian campmate, DAMN that was expensive ($40 postage and insurance). New trailer bumper attachment and bike rack arrived, hallelujah it FITS, not easy with an off-sized tiny trailer bumper (2"x4"). This will really help us break camp faster as we won't have to fold the bikes and try to squeeze them into the van, trailer or on the roof (always took at least 2 hours and 1 argument.) Also arrived today a piece of Duracool for my tiny trailer swamp cooler experiment. I won't get to that until next week or so...too many more urgent things demanding my attention.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Hey EmilyD long time no see. I'm a failure at gifting today. Sorting through my stuff I had this wild idea that an ad on CL aimed at burners would be a great way to give away the extra camping gear. I got 2 obvious non-burner inquiries and then I was on the phone with a promising lead when he told me his friend orders his tickets a year in advance while hes at the event. He even gets him a parking space. All free. His friend goes every year so it's no problem. blah, blah. He gave up trying to convince me and we agreed to hang up. I pulled the ad.

@trillo thanks for the reminder...a well prepared virgin is the best gift your first year & I plan on being just that, everything else will have to fall into place or not.
Cleaned out my backroom as good as possible for a staging area. Have mental lists, cross checked with physical lists & intentions and now I have a spot to put it all so I can start downsizing to what I really need.
Oh my gosh! The $1 store today was like a Burners first aid kit paradise....finger cots, cold packs, pain relieving patches, antibacterial wipes & water bottles with leak proof lids...Happily returned a bunch of the same items back to WallyWorld to save those extra dollars for other goodies.
Off to erect the tent, it's getting hot & all I want to do is chill, so I figure it's a perfect time to force myself.
Oh and I found a camp mate on eplaya...it's been a great day and it's not even noon yet!

It can't end up as moop if it never goes to the playa. Spent a couple hours Removing scarves from bags and pulling off the little 100% silk tags.

Avasoul, Me too. the $ store was full of goodies. Packages of dried fruit and nuts, Pepperoni, Items to make up my 'potti bag', all sizes of ziplocks.
PLUS I couldn't get excited about swag, even though I have accumulated all the stuff for several different projects. Yesterday I came up with something that I would like to make and dug right in. It's for the M&G. Yeaaa!!

I set up my carport shade structure in the front yard today. I am going to refine my camp a little, and streamline set up and take down. A practice camp, so to speak.

Oh, and also got my lag bolts for the shade structure. Surprisingly, I was almost as excited to get the lag bolts as the tickets. Almost.....
Began boxing up all of the lighting and shade structure parts and pieces. Boxing things up for transport is very satisfying. It's like "I'm done with this part and get to move on."

The past few days I've been trying to arrange a carpool. I thought our having a vehicle pass would be attractive to potential rideshares, but it turns out accommodating two people is tough, even when we're packing light.
