RESOLVED - Tickets misdelivered

Post by FossaFerox » Sat Jul 19, 2014 11:39 am

I feel like this is a nightmare. I've been hanging out in my apartment all day just in case my tickets came with today's mail even though they aren't due to be delivered until Monday. They were delivered. Someone signed for them. It wasn't me and I don't recognize the name.

I live in a small apartment building and I've already been door to door, no one seems to know anything. Did I just lose out on my burn this year? :|

Deep breaths.

Email Ticketfly support and burning man ticket support. Go to the post office and file a claim.

If someone other than you took them, they count as stolen and you can get replacements. This can't be the first time this happened.

(1) I hope that your tickets can be replaced.
(2) I hope that your stolen tickets will be cancelled
(3) Most of all I hope, you get a level of satisfaction knowing that if the thief spends money gearing up, travels to BRC and attempts to use the cancelled tickets at the gate that they will be turned around and sent back towards home with their tail between their legs.

If they were stolen intentionally they might be sold at which point some poor innocent is getting screwed in addition to me. The FAQ on ticket support says lost tickets aren't their problem, I'm hoping failed deliveries are an exception. In the meantime... This feels awful.

TICKETS RECOVERED. This crisis brought to you and resolved by your local post office. Letter hadn't been opened yet. Now I need to cancel my ticket with ticket support.

Just out of curiosity Fossa, what exactly happened? Someone being helpful, stupid... Etc.

Sounds like a story here!

Supposedly he issued the confirmation by mistake while the parcel was still on his truck, claiming he hadn't done my building. I don't really buy this because:

1) Where did the random name/signature come from?
2) I'd gotten another bit of mail which I picked up when I ran downstairs after I got the email delivery notification, so it's not like he hadn't delivered to my building.

In any event it looks like the package was unopened, had the right number of tickets inside, etc. Some small part of me will be paranoid that this was an elaborate ruse and someone swapped one of my good tickets with a cancelled one or some such nonsense, but only because this morning's 2 hours of panic totally justified all of my paranoia leading up to this.

The carrier seems to have played games contrary to the way the USPS Domestic Mail Manual says it should be done. That is NOT cool.

Talk with the Post Master, and take everything you have including the online printout and any notifications, etc. Make an issue out of this and demand to know who, and at what address, signed for the package.

Just to be sure, perhaps call ticket support and verify that the tickets are still valid. You never know if they got replaced, flagged as cancelled during the support call and not unflagged, etc. Wouldn't want to miss you at M&G, y'know.

I would verify your tickets to be sure they are still good.

There are thieves working for the post office. My brother is one of the investigators who tracks them and arrests them. It sounds like this guy may have been trying to pull one over on you, but maybe he just made some weird mistake.

How can I verify them? The envelope didn't appear to be tampered with, but finding out something was awry at gate would be truly awful...

Wait until you get a response from Ticketing on your other emails, or, if you haven't heard from them by Monday afternoon, send another email. Let them know the numbers you have on your tickets to verify they're still valid (and open the envelope and verify they haven't been replaced by fake tickets - paranoia is not always bad), and keep a paper trail of your interactions with the post office. If you were dealing with it on your cell-phone you have a perfect trail of calls to & from them, via email even better.

On the one hand I don't want to create more work for ticket support, on the other, this has already been a roller coaster ride and I want the stress to stop. Getting to gate and having our vehicle turned away because my ticket was bogus would ruin my camp's burns... Thanks for the advice, I'll follow up and report back.

Fossa - I had a very similar experience last year. Mine ended with the postmistress calling in the postman, who had conveniently just gone on vacation, and lo and behold, the envelope appeared finally after much futile searching at the Post Office. The postman had logged that he had returned the envelope to the sender (but had never been done, or intended IMHO). When tracking showed it was never sent back to the sender, it was finally discovered in the postman's possession. He's still our mailman - guess he got away with an "oops, my bad".

Yup. We had a very similar situation several years back. Signed for, but never delivered. They somehow magically managed to find the envelope but couldn't tell who signed for it.

This is why I prefer to use Will Call.

Of course I print out and bring all and any paperwork related to the tickets at WillCall.

I bring the paperwork and some government issued photo ID to the WillCall office on-playa and get my tickets. Hop back into my vehicle and go through gate. no issues.

I trust the ORG will have my ticket(s) waiting for me more than I trust Canada Customs, Canada Post or some random postal worker.

Reply to the acknowledgement email that you received (the one that has your ticket # in it), make sure it has the ticket # in the subject line as well as the word UPDATE.

Provide the update. Let them know it was a local postal glitch and that tickets have been recovered. You'll be all set to go.

The ticket team is glad to help, and a quick update email (if it's got the ticket # and a clear/concise update) makes things easy for them.

And congrats on having gotten your ticket order!

Good luck!
I have an open case with Ticket Support - my order is missing one of the 2 tickets I ordered. I contact them immediately. Got an email saying they would respond "within 48 hours." Took them 5 days to respond with a request for a photo. They had the photo within the hour. That was one week ago. Not a single word from them since.
So, do not count on a rapid response from Ticket Support. They are sloooooow....

Yep, the friend who is going with me this year changed her delivery address for her ticket in APRIL. On Friday she received an email notification that ticket was going to the old address. She called Ticketfly, the post office, etc. Basically the post office said it "should" get forwarded to the new address, and Ticketfly was utterly useless, said that it "should" require a signature so if it does go to the old address it "should" get returned to the post office. We are basically waiting, extremely stressed, to see where that ticket lands. Also, she did ask Ticketfly if they could just cancel it and switch it to a will call order, to which Ticketfly said no.

If anyone has a recommendation of who else she should be contacting we would be happy to do that.

Watch the tracking. If it's misdelivered (rather than being sent back or forwarded), email burning man ticket support immediately with your relevant order info and explain what happened.
