...the volcanic outcrop that gives the Black Rock Desert its name. I know it's possible to travel over the desert to the range, but how viable is that? Anyone know how far it is? Is it bikeable? Is it even allowed during Burning Man (just as many areas are off limits during BM which are open the rest of the year)?
Thanks.
How hard would it be to travel to the Black Rock Range...

Black Rock Point is about 20 miles northeast of the Burning Man site. The last mile or so is a little dicey wrt wet spots. The spring is quite hot. Use of local hot springs during the event is discouraged. Biking would be insane, but people do bike around shorter distances. Have your ticket and ID with you.

But IMO finding your way around the Black Rock Desert via the Internet is a sure way to get a posthumous Darwin Award.

Bob's right. Biking - especially during the summer - would be nuts. Not a good idea. You might consider arriving a few days before the event starts, and head out with your vehicle and camp up near there. There are two main approaches and both are pretty easy t find. It *can* get sticky the last few miles but I've never had a problem. But then, I usually head out in a 4x4....the volcanic outcrop that gives the Black Rock Desert its name. Dallas...
send me a real -email address and I'll fire off a few maps (JPGs) to you. Thanks for the info and the map. I would definitely be very cautious about going out there if I did. Anybody have a map showing both the burning man location *and* Black Rock Point? Yes, I'm new at this mapping stuff.
