Hey computer geeks, I need monitor help!

Post by sparkletarte » Thu Nov 11, 2004 10:26 am

I just got a new NEC lcd monitor after having a regular one for years, both are 17". Yay for me! However, everything looks...weird. The fonts are so tiny and the pics and font are slightly blurry. It's hard to even look at the monitor.

Since it's a holiday today I can't call the place I got it from for help.

I'm pretty good with computers- I've done the refresh, the resolution, increased the font size, contrast, etc.- but I'm at a loss.

Anyone?

Please don't tell me I need glasses.

If it's an NEC and blurry it must be used. If so, there is not much you can do about it.

Are you running win xp?

Either way, if you go to control panel and choose display, choose settings and check to see that the screen resolution to 1024x768 at least and the color quality is at least 32 bit that would be a start.

The other thing is if you know what video card your computer is using you may want to check the manufacture website to see if there is an updated driver made just for the lcd flat screen. I know with ATI and NVIDIA it works that way depending on the model.

I think that's the most that I can think of at the moment.

What's the native resolution of the monitor? It should be listed in the manual somewhere. The monitor has a certain number of dots and if you try to feed it a different resolution it has to try to resize things to fit and the result is not always great. On my laptop, if I don't set it to the native resolution it gets fuzzy.

Also, check the manufacturers website to see if there are updated drivers.

Or, it's simply broken.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried those things.

I'm thinking it might just be because the actual monitor size is bigger, so the text looks smaller in relation to the monitor, although it is not actually smaller. That's about all I can figure. Plus it's farther from my eyes than I'm used too. Although as I'm typing this, it does look pretty small.

Then try going to display, then apperance, then choose your font size. if that is not enough you can go to display settings advanced settings and choose custom fonts.

I was dealing with two different things. On the fuck thread I'm talking about not being able to access my customer data after my computers were networked and the service pack 2 was installed. I ended up uninstalling the service pack, and went through a bunch of suggestions on the website that makes the program.

The monitor still looks a bit off but I'm getting used to it. I've been playing with the font size and dpi but for some reason the eplaya is still really small, even when I adjust it in explorer view.

All I did yesterday was fixing computer stuff. Sigh. Glad it's the next day.

check your monitor setting and right click on a blank part of the desktop, click properties, click settings.....maybe that'll work. perhaps your monitor needs some mittens to keep the harsh Canadian cold away

SP2? Sounds like you're using winxp. You'll need sp2. wp has security flaws without it. If you had trouble after it was installed it most likely was the firewall.

Well at least you're up and running.
