Camp on power grid

Post by dustyangel » Wed Jul 23, 2014 6:18 pm

Is there a Hushville-like minimal camp which provides access to power grid? I expect to pay some dues, of course.

When you say "power grid" are you talking about fellow campers with generators?

I think if you look through the camps wanting campers threads you will find at least one camp. It is highly unlikely the camps placed on the BMORG grid are still seeking campers or that any would not expect many hours of participation. It would also be a good idea to have a very good idea of your power needs for the camp's power planner.

Just as a note: camps that are lucky enough to be on the BMorg grid can only use the power for things essential to camp interaction (ie: lights, power for sound systems, etc). It's not designed to power the needs of the participants camped there.

My camp is "Plug and Pray", ie, "please-please-please Mr. Little Generator, please dont hiccup and toss my cooler, freezers and lighting offline again... PLEASE!!!!"

Which is more or less why I didn't mention the organization's power. I should have put my finger on my nose so you all would know not to mention it either.

I was super surprised my first year to learn that there even was such a thing. It made sense upon consideration, but also took some of the magic out of it all.

When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

Look around for camps that are either recruiting or who just look interesting. Check their posted info to see what amenities they offer, or just ask.

Thanks for replies, everyone. I was thinking of something like bmorg's power grid, but it sounds like that should not be replied upon for personal power use.

I thought it would be nice if I don't need to run my own generator and disturb other campers. Perhaps in 100 years, all campsites will have power and flush toilet. Or not.

It's my understanding that the number of "camps" on BMORGs grid is very small. BMIR, for instance, I think is on their grid and I believe some people do live there, so are some of the service camps on Rod's Road, basically invited ones who provide a critical service that would need power. I'm with one of the largest camps on Playa (250 or so campers) and we rent our own commercial generator and split the cost. A fair number of larger camps rent commercial gennies.

No, I don't. In fact, I can generate my own shit twice a day. Impressed?

BM's "grid" covers the camps around the Center Camp ring road and at the 3:00 and 9:00 plazas.
Those are all highly interactive or service camps chosen and placed by the org.
Some other large camps and villages rent similar big diesel generators and set up their own grids, for members of their camps.
The majority of people, as Bbadger pretty accurately put it, bring their own shit.
