Comprehensive Travel Insurance - CSA or other?

Post by metal450 » Wed Jul 30, 2014 2:42 am

Do any of you past burners have recommendations for good *comprehensive* travel insurance?

I know this has been asked plenty of times - but while I've found numerous discussions, most tend to recommend medevac-specific policies, like the Care Flight one mentioned in the Jackrabbit Speaks newsletter. As that's *only* for medical air services, I'd rather get something a bit more comprehensive - just in case of the worst.

I usually use CSA for short trips, it does supposedly include "emergency medical transportation," but I worry that BM could be deemed an "extreme activity" (or other funky catch-all wording), which would then not be covered. Many posts on ePlaya have said that typical travel insurance doesn't include medevac, but from what I can tell, it does seem to. Does anyone have experience with CSA in particular? Or is there another well-used plan that's reliable for BM (that covers evacuation - but is more comprehensive than *just* evacuation, more like regular travel insurance - i.e. personal effects, general medical treatment, etc)?

Thanks in advance! :)

I've contacted my agent and insurance carrier directly and asked the question of an emergency evacuation. All plans within a specific carrier can vary on coverages.
I am pretty sure that BM would not be considered an extreme event, as far as insurance is concerned (aside from the possible weather), as you are driving in and setting up a tent in an organized event.
I would highly recommend that you check with your carrier, as you may be trying to buy overlapping coverage if you are already covered.

Yeah, I'd definitely call & ask before buying anything - but what the agent tells you over the phone still isn't binding, you never know what a company will do until you actually experience using them, so I was more curious about which specific policies people have used and have/haven't had issues with.

(I do know overlapping coverage shouldn't be an issue - I have health insurance, but no other "travel insurance." Whenever I've used travel insurance - whether from CSA, WorldNomads, or HTH - it's always been in conjunction with regular health insurance, & there are large benefits to having both, not the least of which is the fact that travel insurance kicks in way before regular health insurance - with its much higher deductible).
