Sweat Lodge available.

Sweat Lodge available.
The interest in Sweat Lodges seems to be hitting a peak with those in need of appropriating others spirituality for their own spent piety. The urge to go Native American is strong, though the Zuni right of manhood, as an example, requiring one to kill an Apache might be one of the finer points those wishing to be Injun might miss. Funny, turns out Native American tradition covers a thousand different cultures, but I am sure those pursuing this course are aware of that already, right. As a service to the community I have decided to offer the use of a Sweat Lodge for those who choose to make the journey from un-enlightenment to faux-enlightenment.

From 9am to 6pm every day, in any tent not under shade. All the sweat you can pour. Eagle feathered bonnet and war paint optional.

Some additional spiritual advice for the white dreadlocked Rastas; we all know that this is following in the great Nazarene tradition, which includes dietary laws forbidding alcohol and meat consumption. I would just hate for that outward act of spirituality to be betrayed, and seen as only fashion masquerading as deep insight and personal control. Not that I mind fashion statements, as long as we all know that is what it is. Like the hippie out on the playa throwing up in his dreads on Burn night who we had to help, no one in the little circle offering aid mistook him for enlightened.

I visited a sweat lodge a few years back. What a great take. It was downright cold when I got out--even though the temperature was in the 80's outside.

I'm giving this a nudge over to Shelter & Camping, since it fits better there, though random gagging/bitching generally belongs in the Page Two thread in Open Discussion.

Speaking personally, there certainly are some valid points to be made, but it's also worth noting that it's also a time for deep breaths, and not to get so offended about how others choose to burn. So long as they're not breaking rules or laws or negatively affecting other peoples' burns, I say let them do what they want. I can't say I get the appeal of a sweat lodge on the playa either - putting so much time, energy, and money into going to an event that has a billion amazing things to experience and then intentionally spending a significant portion of that time removing oneself from it... seems counterintuitive. I'd plan such an adventure separately, either before or after, and then dive deep into everything the playa has to offer during the limited window of time that Black Rock City exists.... but that's just me. If someone else wants to take a different approach, that's their call.

I was going to post it under Philosophy and Bitching, I was trying to put it out of the way from serious planning discussions but figured I would be wrong where ever I placed it. Yeah, I have zero power on the playa, my opinion is all the club I wield. It's not like I actually make anyone do anything. There is a difference between making someone change their behavior and having an opinion on that behavior, at least I think so. So, yeah, just like you, my approach is to have an opinion. Not sure how my opinion, other than being what it is, became imposing on how others act.

All this talk of sweat lodges just makes me think of Arrested Development which in turn makes me think it's a very silly idea.

For what it's worth (as a noob) when I recently asked one of the guys in my community who has been to burning man before "what was your favorite part" said that his favorite experience was getting up every morning with a buddy and going to a remote sweat lodge on the edge of nowhere setup by a guy who didn't speak English. Said it was spiritual and off the beaten path.

It's great they sought their own path. Power to them all. The same goes for me. I sit in my tent at 9am sweating, babbling incoherently, and savoring that moment away from the rabble above all other moments.....ask your friend what that guy looked like. I wonder if the guys exoticness of speaking no English made it more spiritual, made him seem more enlightened.

I really have nothing against sweat lodges, or whatever, hell, I'd help someone set one up on the playa if they needed my aid. Seriously.

What everyone seems to be missing, other than FIGJAM, is my comment about every tent on the playa being a sweatlodge from 9am to 6pm. This is comedy gold. All the physical minded people trying to figure out how to cool their tent, all the spiritual trying to find a hotter one.

Having it become spiritual suddenly makes it desirable. Funny.
