START HYDRATING
Start hydrating everyone! TTITD is just around the corner and you'll want to get your body used to plenty of water. Most of us do not drink enough water in our every day lives and suddenly throwing lots of water into your system at the burn can freak it out. Start hydrating now and avoid the rush.

Thanks, saw this and went and grabbed a large glass of water. That kept me from feeding the vending machine. Better for me and free!

Amen Brother!
For every two shots or strong ales you drink, take in a light beer to hydrate. Them's the rules.

Y'all should be up to around 2 liters of water or more a day by now. I'm at 3 liters myself and feeling great!

Re: START HYDRATING
I think maybe people need to just drink more electrolytes and sugars at the burn, not necessarily drink so much water. All I ended up doing by drinking water all the time at the burn was craving more water when I didn't need it, and pissing more water out. I solved that by remembering to drink more liquids with electrolytes so that I got what I needed, without having to piss all the time. I drank water too of course.
Bust out those PBRs too, and if you're from Utah, they're pretty much water anyway. Just opening the can probably releases what alcohol was left.

Re: START HYDRATING
I've been hydrating using my camelback so I can get used to carrying it around all the time, especially on my bike or when I am working in the yard. Just constantly sipping is a new habit to build.
Electrolytes? Yes! I found they taste good and really makes me feel better and I don't just pass it through like straight water.
PBR? Can't do that stuff but I remember it from back in my drinking days. Mostly water as I recall.

Re: START HYDRATING
I keep hearing this cry. Can someone please explain to me why I should start drinking water NOW. We all take in liquids all year. You can get dehydrated in a matter of days, (or hours if you're staked out in the sun). Whatever I drink today will have no effect on how much water is in my body come August. I won't forget to drink on playa. I'll be carrying a 10 lb. bladder on my back. There will be a hose inches from my face ready to quench my thirst. Ideally, I'll have a 'cold one' in each hand as well.
Wear your boots now and break em in.
Let your naked, white body get some sun.

Crank up the music and embrace the boom boom.
Do I really have to practice drinking?

Hey hey hey now, PBR goes down easy, and has a smooth, crisp finish.

I always drink more than I need on playa. If I've had too much it's not problem, since in Black Rock City you can urinate anywhere. I just squat and get rid of the excess, then keep dancing to kick it into the dust.
In the default world it's more of a problem. I have found diapers to be unsanitary, and a catheter running to a ziploc bag attached to my calf gave me a wicked UTI. Still working on a solution to that one.

Ok. You are obviously a troublemaker just trying to get a reaction. No pissing on the ground. Now back to rationnal discussion.

But I always have a few kegs of good awesome homebrew near by.
Oh, I see....if I start drinking PBR now my guts may adjust to it by the time I get to the Playa. Did I mention I'm taking this year off because it would probably take that long

Re: START HYDRATING
I have this same question. I was chatting with a veteran burner the other day and she gave me similar advice about starting to drink more water now. She couldn't exactly say why, but she said from her experience it is definitely the way to go.Ratty wrote:I keep hearing this cry. Perhaps it will expand my bladder so I don't have to adventure to the portos quite so often (I have the bladder of a pregnant gnat).
It seems that this is my circus, and apparently those are my monkeys.
I'll get the net.

Re: START HYDRATING
The main reason is because most of us in our regular lives do not drink enough water. When you get out onto the Playa and start drinking LOTS of water, it's a shock to your system. If you start drinking lots of water now, your body wont be freaking out when you start doing it on the Playa.

Re: START HYDRATING
The whole drink X amount of glasses of water per day because we're dehydrated in normal life is just a bunch of bad, Dr Oz-level pseudo-nutrition-science.
Your body will tell you if you're dehydrated. Drink water if you feel thirsty or parched. This is the position of modern science and studies -- not that silly stuff people used to believe in, like agave being any better than other sweeteners.
Otherwise, you're just giving your body excess fluids that will just flush out your minerals and waste your time in the bathroom. Unless you know you're going to sweat profusely or need to pee them out (like when drinking) in the immediate future, you're doing yourself no good. On-playa you may even be doing yourself harm by flushing out electrolytes, or make excess trips to the porta-potty, or having to piss in a jug when you're trying to sleep.
Don't do it! Drink the water you need, the water your body tells you to drink. The only reason we tell burgins to drink so much water is that it's erring on the side of safety. It's better for people to waste their time peeing all the time than leaving camp without something to drink when they're thirsty in the heat.
I hate over-drinking water at Burning Man. It was the one thing to had to condition myself to stop doing. Part of that was to start drinking more electrolytes because that's what I really needed. All that water was just making the situation worse, and it even dragged on after I returned home. Now I can just use the water for showers or keeping cool, not for trips to the pisser.
