Does the universe read eplaya?
Because, I think that the universe has other ways of "knowing" what "it" "needs" to "know", ya know?

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Trust me, you do NOT want to watch a thunderstorm move in to Black Rock City. Even if you're a seasoned veteran and have your camp and all its structures completely dialed in, it makes a huge mess of everything, disrupts everything in a pretty horrible way, and makes for a pretty miserable experience.
Woohoo 48_love, congrats!
Had a long and busy and productive day, but still so much to do. Then hooray, got to have a nice dinner with friends/campmates who are taking this year off (they're working on other adventures, and prepping to sail down the coast in a month or two). It was nice to catch up and swap stories, as well as connect on a piece of art they'll be working on for us to take to the playa with us.

Oh I don't know, I think a thunderstorm in BRC might be entertaining this year

I enjoyed lightning in 2012, but that's because 1) there was no rain, and 2) Junglesmacks was tall enough to take the hit for the rest of us.

*Bushmills all around*
Watched a thunderstorm move in for 3 DAYS at Juplaya last year;
DAY 1: Lightning and thunder moves through the mountains in a halo all the way around the playa;
DAY 2: Lightning and thunder create a solid ring around the playa (St. Elmo's Fire, WOOT!!!! )
DAY 3: Thunder and rainstorm ( 3 hours ) on the playa (party in the Box Truck!)
DAY 4, AFTERMATH: Muddyalldamnday;don'tMOVE. , lovely fire-dancing night ...
So yuuuummmmm ...

A solid structure to keep the rain off, a cooler of booze, and a pee bucket, is all we need. And fingers crossed we aren't in a puddle.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Good morning! Amazing how awake I can be in the morning, with proper motivation.
Last year, after hearing about the big rain pre-event, I brought four 4' x 4' slabs of thick plywood to park Millicent on, so she would not sink in the mud if we had more such rain. And enough food and water for two extra weeks of being marooned. But then... I tend to over-prepare.
In 2007, there was a plastic tarp dance-floor across the street from us, and a slight rain-shower turned it into a marvelous slip-n-slide. (As in, when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade!)
Yesterday I loaded the beer into Millicent. First things first!

I'm not nearly awake enough to be up this morning!
I still regret not getting out of the tent during the rain in 2012. Would like to avoid a thunderstorm, though.

Learning about neural pathways and synapses and how we come from the factory wired to emphasize negative experiences, because that was a vital survival skill in the Stone Age. Luckily, we can grow the pathways that emphasizes positive experiences by exercising those pathways thru deliberate practice. Kind'a like training regular muscles. Fascinating Stuff! (At least for me.

Morning all! Thunderstorming here now, as a matter of fact. Supposed to be rainy for the next couple days. Wouldn't mind it at all except that our building at work has a less than perfect roof and so now we've got leaks in incovenient places.

The playa isn't "home" to anything or anyone, it's not magic, it's just a goddamm camping trip. A really awesome one. -Captain Goddammit

when they started giving the weather warnings last year, i remembered that we had actually set at least part of camp on what was a slight depression where water had been from the early rain.AntiM wrote:A solid structure to keep the rain off, a cooler of booze, and a pee bucket, is all we need.
