Watermelon Camp

Post by haribon » Fri Aug 01, 2014 9:40 pm

I want to bring a lot of watermelons to Burning Man. I can carve them up and inject them with fun. Is it ok to burn the rinds? If not, I'm happy to haul them out.

They will dry out quickly. A burlap bag hanging over a pot is the traditional method. You can take them home and compost them.

If you're going to give it away or are in a large camp, you must file for a permit from these guys. It's not too difficult, but there's probably be a deadline.

When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

If you are coming from out of state - are there fruit inspectors?

What they said about needing a health department permit - more info here.

If you've got a place where you can burn the rinds safely, then yes you can burn them (along with other burnable trash). Public burn platforms may not be used for burnable trash. See this page for info about open fire in your camp.

We had a big plastic tote we put the rinds in, set them out in the afternoon sun and they burned to nothing in the burn barrel that night.
