Tent Stakes

Post by Zrob » Sun Aug 03, 2014 1:31 pm

I'm looking for opinions about tent stakes for my shade structure

I'm not looking to use rebar.

My tent last year came with some nice high quality 12" steel stakes that worked very well.

My shade structure that goes around my tent does not have as high quality stakes. I'm looking to purchase some better stakes.
is there any reason I should or should not get the triangular stakes or stakes that have a ^ shape to them?
It's between those in 12" steel or a set of 18" steel peg type stakes (monk industries)

Thoughts?

I have fallen in love with Figjam's idea of using lag bolts. I have bought and plan to use 12" nails with two links of chain around each. I've already tested them out with the built-in eyelets on my tent. I like the option of using a bungee cord or anything else through the chain links. Plus, it's easy-peezy to pull up the nails by leveraging the chain links.

Here's the link to Figgy's original post:

NB: I'm a virgin this year, so I haven't tested out my nails. But I think they'll be great, based on others' recommendations. Good luck!

Zrob, how could we possibly recommend stakes without knowing what your shade structure consists of?

Oops, my bad! I stand corrected!

(Jesus Christ, I've looked at that lag-bolt post so often, you'd think I'd have the URL memorized. That and the swamp cooler one! )

I honestly wasn't aware that such information was necessary.

It's a 10x10 pup up from gander mountain with side wall attachments.

If you're really dead set against rebar and lag bolts please at the very least use the 18" stakes, double up on them, consider not using the side walls, and please don't camp near me...
