Gravel guards for boots? Two layers of socks?
So at my local burner pot luck last night a guy who volunteers as a ranger says that the playa will get all up in your shoes and boots and you end up picking rocks and dirt out.
So I was wondering it would be a good idea to get some gravel/dirt guards for my hiking boots -- the same kind used for river wading to keep rocks and debris out of wading boots when fishing.
Here's what I was thinking: http://goo.gl/WMjPaZ
They're cheap enough I will have an extra pair to gift if they are great.
Also I was thinking about double-layering my socks ala
thin base layer: http://goo.gl/G2jLvz
And then hot-weather hiking sock over
Good ideas? Bad ideas?

Just stick to the sidewalks.
There is dust, lots of dust, abrasive in your eyes and shoes dust. No gravel or rocks. None.

I guess sometimes you can't see the rocks because of all the trees.
Of course if you are going to romper stomper around the Burns, the fires are done on burn pans covered with gravel. That whole area heats up and having on good boots and socks is a plus.
I usually wear slip ons during the early week, often without socks. Sometimes the socks are needed by me to shield my calf from being rubbed raw by the top of the shoe/boot. Once things start to get hot, it's into the boots.

Blah I knew you guys would catch me on the "rocks"!
I should have written "debris"... In any case it doesn't sound like a big deal - also I'm not crazy for trying the double sock strat -- thank you
Maybe the gravel guards could serve a purpose as shoe-lace bicycle guards... I haven't ridden my bike with my hiking boots yet..

You'll be extra hot.
(I suppose that I should follow that up with "wear them not" but fuck that! I don't have to follow the eplaya herd. Plus, the horrible yoda-syntax. Yuck!)

With fur gaiters you will be extra hot.
Gravel in your shoe, well, probably not.
Or you could fly above the rabbles head,
But that is found on a different thread.
