The correlation between the first time the event sold out and my registering on eplaya are uncanny.
And unless your kid is cooking me hotdogs or pancakes, serving me drinks or spanking my ass, it may be time to disillusion them of Santa, bah humbug.

And dear children, once upon a time, these very snarkers used to buy an extra ticket to just give away.
Re: PAGE TWO
For what it's worth, about 85% of the revenue generated by BLM comes from oil and natural gas leases. Of that, half is given back to the states where the leases occur.jneilvindy wrote:BLM and all the national park systems are so strapped for cash I'm sure BM is a very welcome drop in their bucket. I personally would see the playa turned into a concrete parking lot for instance if it meant Yosemite valley and say Yellowstone park were maintained at full funding yearly all off BM income. Oh and for all I know BLM doesn't see a penny of BM monies, it's all pocketed by other government agencies or 17,000 helicopter drip pans.

Oh the irony of life, making so much from the totally non-LNT oil industry, along with collecting the fees for dripping oil pans on the playa.

Up until the days of our Burn in 2010, Tickets were abundant, yea, like midges upon the water were they, where they could be purchased in Stores, and in the Mail, and at The Gate, and where all who did plan could Burn, and of those in need of tickets it was only the unfortunate or the hippie who could not attain them. Amen.
So abundant were the Tickets, oh Children, that to sell one before the Burn you must lose money like the old man doth loseth hair, for where-as now the phrase is "Face Value or Fuck Off", then the phrase was "Face Value? Fuck Off!" for they could be attained for so little of their face value. And the poor were blessed in the last weeks with their preparations, and they could attend for under $200, and the scalpers did not exist. Verily a paradise, though in rural Nevada.
Then the dark days of 2011 came upon the land, and the Tickets sold out, and the Unprepared cried to the heavens, asking how this fate had fallen upon them, even though the Sacred LLC had given plenty of warning. And the Begging for tickets began in earnest, and the old timers unloosed their Snark, for it was the only weapon Those Who Planned had against the Unprepared.
The Unprepared came to the front in the next few years, as Tickets flowed in relative abundance the last few weeks, and most were satiated, and it was only the most Unprepared who could not attend, and the Man was satisfied, as where Those Who Planned. And it was good.
Alas and alack, we have now arrived on the shores of a foreign sea, where there are so many of Those Who Plan who cannot obtain Tickets, and so many of the Unprepared wailing for entry, yet the Gates are held strong by the BLM to limit the flood, and not all Those Who Plan can Burn anymore, and the Unprepared are equal in their despair, and all we can do is counsel those who seem Worthy, while using Snark at those who seem Not To Get It, and to hope it's not as bad next year. But, alas, it will be. Amen.

Responding to this again. After reading many of these posts in the ticket forum, such as people feeling so entitled as to feel "screwed over" by additional opportunities, I'm going to say that I'm actually very happy that some people are not receiving tickets.jneilvindy wrote:How do you vets stand the year after year need a ticket posts?

The ones where they just expect a ticket to magically appear for free, yeah, not so hard to snark at, but the rest, even if corny or kinda over the top. Just a reflection of their desire to attend is how I see them
I want everyone at burning man!
The universe has answered my prayers by manifesting a ticket-void in the hands of such people I wouldn't want to meet in real life, let alone on the playa. Good riddance. There are endless, worthy replacements.

I just learned today that cavemen were gluten free, who knew?, and that there is no need to have an uptik of the ends of your mouth to smile.
I always figured cavemen ate lots of rotting meat, weeds and didn't concern themselves with fashion diets.
And, yeah, most people feel a smile involves either an upturned grin, or laughing eyes.

Nope, it's laser-powered to heal an eye's retina, or pinpoint radiation to destroy a tumor. Stuff like that.Captain Goddammit wrote:I've finally learned exactly what the fuck energy healing is. It's quotation marks!

Oops....You mean, like HIPPY energy healing. Like, dude, I know nothing about that. Sorry.

Re: PAGE TWO
The closest thing I can come to thinking like that is when Mr. Miyagi rubs his hands together very fast to warm them up to temporarily 'heal' Daniel-san's knee in The Karate Kid so he can win the tournament. But Miyagi had self-control. Hippies normally don't. Ever see a National Forest after the Rainbow (read "Drainbow") Family has been through it? "LNT be damned, and we'll do what we want" is what it becomes.Captain Goddammit wrote:Excuse me, yes, I wasn't clear, I did mean hippy energy healing.
Not real healing of any sort.
You're more likely to get dysentery from the communal kitchen, or something nasty from an 'obliging' earth mama. That's NOT healing.

For the love of G_D, I get it finally. You know when people say, " Don't be that guy."; I just realized that "I" am that guy... DOH!
Self-realization is fine, except, when it is "you" they are suggesting is that guy; and you are too fucking dumb and unaware that it is you and not "them".
I sincerely am sorry, if I have been the pot calling the kettle black.

And, seriously, there are people who were born in the other 50 weeks of hte year. Should they just roll over and let you go. This year. And next year. and the year after. AND, btw, to really muck up YOUR day, there will probably never be a playa subway. Even WITH the 'new Austrian Tunneling method' foisted on the tunneling community by tunnel boring equipment manufacturers, the gypsum and heat at depth when you're boring will actually corrode the tooling as you bore. Start with a brand-new tunneling machine, and come out at the halfway point with a pile of very expensive junk.
I'm sort of partial to an overhead monorail myself; maybe one with maglev as the propulsion system.
