I believe the axle is long enough (looked at it with a bike guy last night) and so it appears it is a fairly minor operation to add this to the bike, but perhaps not. I did not realize pegs / someone on the back would damage the bike as much as you're saying. I'll have to look into that further.
Regardless, I wasn't trying to add load to your camp! I thought it would be a simple operation and a good reason to come by and say hello. No worries, I'll do more investigation on this and won't plan to come by your spot if I want to attach them out there.
Now.... If the axle is long enough, then it is an EXTREMELY simple operation to install these things, requiring no tools and little brain: Just screw them on, and tighten by sticking a rusty screwdriver or some such improvised implement thru the holes provided for that purpose. You wouldn't need my help at all.
Now.... All the "regular" such pegs have the threaded part recessed quite far, clearly intended to install without removing the original nut. But that means that the axle needs to be quite long.
I have one pair of aluminum pegs that are threaded to the end, and could replace the original nuts on a normal short axle. These pegs are about half the size of the common ones.
Of course, the regular ones could be cut down to fit the same way. Not that I would want to be involved.
So.... You want to carry a passenger. Why? Why not put the passenger on their own bicycle? Come by and say hello, and have a beverage, and let's see if I might have just one more bike available. Stranger things have happened.
