What is going on with STEP?

Post by crime-s2 » Thu Aug 07, 2014 3:51 am

Hi - we submitted a ticket to the STEP program at the start of July and have heard absolutely nothing about it.

Are STEP tickets still being distributed to people? If they aren't, why aren't we being given our ticket back to sell privately? Getting a bit worried as it's two weeks until BM and despite sending a couple of emails we've had no response.

Is anyone else in the same situation? Is there anyone who works with BM and can advise us what to do next??

Any help would be much appreciated - it seems ridiculous that a ticket (and our money!) could go to waste!

Thanks :D

I have my name on the eplaya list for people needing ticket and as of yesterday afternoon, the list just tripled! I'm beginning to lose hope in getting a ticket this year. If your ticket does not sell on Step, there are many people still looking for tickets...hopefully you will hear something soon from step and be able to make someone on the list very happy!

I wouldn't sit on this. I'd contact [email protected] immediately.

Hi there,

I'm in the same position.

Submitted two tickets plus vehicle pass to the STEP on July 10th when I realised I really could not go this year.

I was getting pretty concerned that they had not sold given the demand, and wanted them back to sell to a friend, and so was sent this reply on July 22nd ...
The demand for Burning Man tickets always outweighs the supply for them, so please hang tight! You will be notified once your ticket has sold – tickets cannot be removed from STEP once they have been submitted.

The flow of tickets in STEP depends on how many people are selling their tickets back, and how many people signed up for STEP and buy during their 72 hour window. Sometimes it is hard to predict the rate at which people will both buy and sell their tickets within STEP.

If for whatever reason your tickets do NOT sell, you will be informed with alternate options or actions.

If we can assist further, please let us know.

Best,
I replied asking what the options might be and so on July 25th I received this final reply ...
The last day to submit tickets to sell is Friday – we will still be offering tickets to folks for a bit longer after that. Don’t worry!

If we can assist further, please let us know.

Best,
It's 13 days since the STEP closed as I type this. I have sent 3 e-mails since then trying to ascertain if my tickets are still valid so I can sell them myself but no reply.

I am so disenchanted. $800 down the toilet I suspect.

Best of luck with your situation.

It's all very well saying contact ticket support immediately, that only works if you get a reply!

As was stated above, you need to contact [email protected]

Nobody on this board can give you a solid answer, only Ticket Support can.
I would put the words "Unsold STEP tickets" in the subject line, so they know what the email is about. Be as clear as possible, and give them as much information as possible in the initial email (your names, any confirmation numbers you have, any email info from STEP about the tickets, etc)

You are lucky to have received a reply. I have the same issue and have e-mailed ticket support but they haven't responded for 2 weeks now. I submitted my tickets to STEP on July 15th and they have not been sold yet. Seeing the high demand there is for tickets I have troubles believing they can't be sold, I fear something must have gone wrong.

Any one out there who successfully sold tickets with STEP?

STEP closed. Your ticket(s) most likely were to a succession of people who didn't buy and didn't send it on in a timely fashion, so they were never sold.

STEP CLOSED. STEP CLOSED. STEP CLOSED. YOU CANNOT SELL MORE TICKETS THROUGH STEP, BECAUSE STEP CLOSED.

That said, I don't know what happens when your ticket is sold. I presume an email and credit to your credit card.

You presume correctly, that was what happened when I submitted one ticket to the STEP last year.

Gee. We know that STEP is closed. For registration. We also know that the system is working through the queue of buyers and sellers after STEP registration is closed. Which is what we are talking about here. njorun's tickets was marked for STEP sale weeks ago, yes, before they closed it. Looking at the demand for tickets, it's not only a financial bummer, it's also sad to know tickets are going unused when there's plenty of passionate burners wanting to go. Which is worthy of both comment and critique. I hope they are still working on it.

Thank you for all the really helpful replies up there...

As I said in my original post, we had contacted ticket support TWICE and since this post, another time as well. The reason I posted on here was to get helpful answers from people who have maybe been in this situation before or had some relation to the BM organisers.

If anyone in our situation gets a response from ticket support could you please post it in here! We have still had nothing.

Thanks!

You should probably check your spam folder. Regardless of human contact, you should get an automated response (with a ticket number) within minutes, and while the time it takes to resolve a situation can vary depending on that situation, the team gets some kind of response usually within 24-48 hours (for me, the slowest response was during the OMG sale, and response times were still within 2 days). Make sure that any followup emails you send to the [email protected] include your original support ticket # (from that automated message).

STEP has closed. Tickets may not be submitted. Ticket offers are no longer being made. Any ticket offers that had been made have long since expired. No further tickets are being distributed through STEP in any capacity.

I'm closing this thread up, as the question has been answered - if you need additional help, see this thread and contact the appropriate group for support.
