New Beginnings

Post by juego52 » Fri Apr 18, 2014 3:26 pm

Hi everyone, this will be my second time to BM. Last time I went was in 2003. It was wonderful experience. As for myself, I am burned out, laid off municipal employee with no job, no house, no credit, and last year, I had to put my sick cat to asleep (it started out has my ex-wife’s 10 year old cat, but after 5 years of marriage, the cat took a real liking to me).

How at this stage of life I am being me. I learning to practice Buddhism and T'ai Chi, preparing to go back to college to study web development. Also repair computers, volunteer work, handyman, house sitting, and gardening jobs. In my spare time I sew, sell on eBay, visits Palm Springs (regularly) & LA (sometime).

Looking forward to new experiences, friends, and share some transportation cost.

WELCOME!!
Damn! Sorry to here about your cat. Nothing breaks my heart more than hearing of someone loosing a pet. What adds fuel to the fire is the vet charging close to $100 to put a beloved pet down.
Good luck to you in your endeavors and maybe our path will cross at BM 2014.

I made the commitment to go to BM, no matter what. I wasn't sure if i could make the journey this year, but today, I sold my carbon fiber mountain bike on eBay to help me finance rest of my trip. How i am busy preparing to go.

I'm glad to hear you're coming back! I was there in 2003 as well, maybe we passed each other on the street. :)

Here is my 10X20 hut. I will be using zip ties to fasten the tarp. I will also band-aid the ties to the tarp with duct tape, so if they break off, they won’t become MOOP. Still no bids on my bike, but I did buy a big bottle of tequila.

Duct tape has a tendency to melt on the playa, rendering it a big sticky gooey mess. Bungee balls might be a better backup.

Bungee balls are indeed awesome, and much faster to apply than tape would be.

Thanks for the advise, but i was trying to avoid spending anymore money. I can get zip-ties at .99 store.

You can also have your $380 (minimum) trip ruined, your belongings damaged, and waste time that you could be enjoying yourself by cutting corners using cheap supplies that will break under load. Don't spoil the broth by using one cheap ingredient.

HA! I sold my mountain bike and this time the buyer paid. I sold it $60 less than previous sale, but I had to reduced the price to initiate quick sale. Now, I can begin in getting fully prepared.

Bungee balls! And congrats on the sale, and the ability to prep well. Myself, I've got at least $100 in cans & bottles for gas money ( and I am praying it's a whole lot more)

Your PM is working. It just stays in the outgoing box until the person at the other end opens it.

Hmmm I must be doing something wrong. I am on my phone and I usually do not do things on here. When I tried to do a PM to him it told me to add valid user name. :-/

Maybe it was iPhone fat finger syndrome on my part :)

Okay, I have no experience of that. I haven't a clue, either.

I got the bungee balls today! Thank for your generosity, heartfelt card from both of you and something else you also gave. With $ in my hand, I been busy prepare. Convincing cashiers and a store manager to match lows prices I can find. Even though I been busy shopping, building, and packing, I still felt I was not going to make it to Burning Man. It didn’t feel real, but the gift from Daisy Love and MacGyver make it real for me, today. Thank you.

I only got $70 for my cans, but a bunch of clients paid me!

Burners are wonderful peeps Juego52. We may seem like a bunch of snarky assholes at times, but we do like folks that come in here doing it right, even if you're trying to burn on a wing & a prayer. Hope to see you out there! Come to the eplaya M&G

Yayyy:)!!!! I am so happy to hear they made it! thank you USPS for doing a job well done:)

I am very happy I looked at your post to say hello before. Getting eveyone ready can be so overwhelming so I was more than happy to offer the little help I could.
I should rename myself the Bungie Queen because honestly we bought wayyyyyy too many last year:) It was our first burn and I wanted to make sure we had enough.

Maybe our paths will cross out in the dust:) Look for a girl on a Green Sunflower Beach Cruiser and crazy rainbow dreads own to her bum. That's me:)

Have super safe travels and have a beautiful burn! Smile brightly!
