When to mail a package to myself?

Hi everybody,

I'd like to mail a package to myself. But when should I mail the package? How much time should I allow?

I live on the East Coast. USPS estimates about 7 calendar days for delivery from me to the 89412 zip code using normal mail.

If my package arrives in Gerlach before BM begins, will they hold it until the Playa post office opens?

Just to be clear, no plans here to ship contraband to myself.

Just pickles and batteries and other various presents for me and my fellow camp-mates.

Pickles and batteries?! You'd probably pay more in shipping than those items are worth. The pickles won't even be cold either. Just go to a grocery store or even a gas station on the way in. The only reason I'd bother with shipping is if you had something that was impossible to buy at any of the towns.

Use UPS ground. Five business days. Pretty cheap. Ship to Reno. Don't ship anything that you can easily get in Reno.

Unless, of course, both were carefully crafted by artisans using recipes passed down through the generations, and the pickles use a type of dill only grown on a hard to reach mountain in Azerbaijan, and the batteries come in hand-forged copper cases with rubies specifying positive/ negative charges.
