There hasn't been any activity in this thread in a decade. You may want to reach out to and connect with your regional group (the regionals page is linked in an announcement at the top of this board). I don't doubt we've got a few users on the board from Hawaii, but they're not using the site to organize local meetups.

Be careful out there Captain, you're a haoule and they HATE haoule's. I have several friends from the islands and they advise not to go. They do not want us there.Captain Goddammit wrote:Well shit, I'm about to go to Kauai for a week...

And I tell people making casual inquiries about TTITD that they will hate it and not to go.TT120 wrote:Be careful out there Captain, you're a haoule and they HATE haoule's. Re: Kauai Burners
I depends on where you go. If you stay in the touristy areas, you won't have any problems at all. There are some bad apples at "local only" places, but visiting the islands is just fine. Moving there with kids, especially with kids who have to deal with the other school kids...; I have heard some horror stories.Be careful out there Captain, you're a haoule and they HATE haoule's. I have several friends from the islands and they advise not to go. They do not want us there.
I heard one story about a cook on a navy ship that decided to go surfing. It happened to be a local only beach and he got beat up pretty badly. When he returned to the ship, all his navy buddies asked what happened and made him go back surfing there the next day while they hid in the bushes. The locals started at it again and the navy guys gave the locals such a bad beating that the cook actually felt sorry for the guys who beat him up the day before.
Anyway if you meet up with burners, they will know what to do or stay in the populated areas and be respectful. I've been a few times and I know many people and have never know anyone first hand who had problems.
