Modest Mouse - "Good News for People Who Love Bad News"

I just got this CD and love it. Two of my favorites are the ones on the radio now, here are links to the videos.

You and I must be about the same age. My friends and I would sit at our instruments and learn every note to see who would get the entire song first on each instrument exactly right.

Ah, the good ol days.

Between that and Jaco.........well at least one of us became famous from all that practicing.

Slick Idiot's new album, "Screwtinized."

Yeah, there we go with the eclecticism again — this album swings between electronica, adult contemporary, mosh-it-up metal, snarly German KMFDM-vintage, male-female vocal duets, silly little ditties a la Bare Naked Ladies and that's just in one song! :)

For a time, this frightening urban battlefield became a pulsing cacophony of strange and deadly sounds. The mosques in the city broadcast calls to jihad through their speakers. F-18's fired 3,000 rounds a minute in bursts that sounded oddly like burps. AC-130 gunships droned overhead, their big cannons going thunk, thunk as they found targets.

Perhaps strangest of all, the American troops brought in their own "psyops" trucks - for psychological operations - and blared sounds that created a nightmarish duet with the mosques: old AC/DC songs, something that sounded like a sonar ping, the cavalry charge.

Yes. Twas them indeed. Actually, I believe they still exist in a various incantations. I saw Mark Burgess do an acoustic set in SF a couple of years ago. People flew from as far away Chicago and NY just to see it. Was just amazing. 200+ people singing the lyrics word for word to every single song.

I also saw the full band back in '87 or '88 and I swear I have never seen a more passionate singer in my life. By the end of the set there was a puddle of sweat covering most of the stage. He made Bono look like tired.

Great band. Very cool people too.
