Need help with gear haul

Post by Frozen_Catalyst » Fri Aug 15, 2014 6:43 pm

Signal boost from an awesome art project in need of some emergency help:

"While crossing the country with our art project, Cosmic Praise, we have been tagged as being overweight near North Platte, Nebraska. We need to find some way, on a Friday evening to off-load and find new transport for 3,500-Lbs of gear.
|
Does anyone here know anyone up in that neck of the woods that might be able to either help us our or give us some pointers on what to do next in terms of finding some transport options?"

Rent a truck? You can put 3500 pounds in a U-Haul or similar.
Last resort, check around locally and buy a cheap old 3/4 ton or 1-ton pickup for $1500 or so. I'm assuming you're clueless about trucks because of what's happening, so just for the record, 3/4 ton and 1-ton are not literal terms, they are old slang terms left over from a long time ago. One of those would work.

Wow, that's a pretty spectacular logistics fail. Trying to find someone who's got that much empty space/weight in their vehicle may be a challenge - you guys should seriously look into renting something. If you can find a heavy duty cargo van (and your gear will fit in that space), that could work (light duty vans are only a ton or so, you're nearly 2 tons), otherwise even a small box truck should have that capacity.

Passing that location Monday afternoon

I have the flexibility to drop your gear at the gate before I hit Reno Thursday

Note to folks: you don't just get weighed in weigh stations. HP and DOT officers have portable scales, any bug vehicle which looks suspect to them can be pulled over and scaled anywhere. Friend of mine was on a bus headed west and they got pulled over. They'd put all the heavy things on the roof to make room for passengers, and were swaying down the road. They were caravanning with a couple RVs, so were able to redistribute, but the driver did get a hefty ticket.

Sometimes when you ask for others, you have to also answer for them. It's nice you try to help, but sometimes no good deed goes unpunished.
As for the Captain, on another thread he helps someone out by suggesting they pound on a problem with a wood block......stinking elitist.

We have spotted asses in the South.
You nearly-Canadians have spotted owls.
Sounds pretty freakin' eliteist to me... That and the whole Dick Cabbot / yacht-in-the-desert motif.

The fact I can afford a Value Village second hand suit and you can't is your problem, hippie.
