Charging all batteries today. Sorting and packing bins and moving to the "done" pile. Making last minute shopping list including fresh foods and interesting things from the food thread here.

Larry got a lot of the trailer prepacked today. Found a whole box of playa booze shoved back in the pantry.

Set the Figjam cooler by the van blowing in.. Making up the bed and arranging stuff to fit.. Van is much cooler.. Put a double blanket in the back hatch like Patch said to do.. The rest of the doors will be closed most of the time.

ha ha ha ... I learned how to cut a square piece of mdf board! Too little too late, I fear.
I have all the shopping done, things are piled, and boxed, mainly.
finished two hats. Will complete the fog horn tonight.
skull speakers done. subwoofer, and box last things to do (containing the amp though...) and I think it's too steep a learning curve to complete. hmm, three maybe four more evenings, three lunch hours.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Has August always had 31 days? I had a mild panic attack today when I went to check the reservations I made earlier this year. It appears I knew how many days it had then, thankfully. It's not easy being me.
I delayed procrastination enough today to gather all my stuff, make a list of needs and grabbed most of them in one half hour trip. It came to $40 and the bulk of it was non-perishable food. I updated my spreadsheet, color coded everything and threw everything near it's respective bin put did not actually pack anything. Tomorrow I will complete the spreadsheet so I can print contents list for each bin and a master list so I can laminate them at work.
I'm off Wednesday and leave on Thursday so I'm not sweating it but now and then I do marvel at how laid back and lackadaisical I've become. Isn't this supposed to be stressful?

Gots phone, need to swap. Cheep simple ph does the job and doesn't turn into broken expensive phone.

Confirmed I have all the relevant pieces for my tent and shade - poles, stakes, rope etc. All in one nice big bag together now.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
I mooped my truck today. The center console was a mess but I got it all cleaned out and organized. Checked all lights, spare tire, fluid levels, tire pressure, registration card, and insurance card.
Got the ham radio installed and tested, channels programmed.
Found my rain jacket and long johns in case it gets cold and wet.
Boxed up the booze. (Dam, that thing is heavy)

One item?!? Hell I've handled dozens if not hundreds today.
I've broken the back of the job, won't have to stress it the rest of this week.
See you all on the playa!

Straps sewn on extra sun hat, bike gear inventoried, additional solar lights added to the artcar dash, purchased all food except fresh veggies and dry ice for the pulled pork, clothes piled into catagories. Tomorrow is all about the trailer!

Had a 3 day weekend... managed to get a lot of things squared away. Some things I finally had to admit just were not going to happen (not even started yet), which was sort of a cleansing experience to be truthful. Pulled everything out of the trailer and started packing it up. Starting to get that feeling like right before you go over the first drop on a roller coaster!

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Also, after some of the bitter cold nights in the last few years, I decided to make a little wood pellet burning firepit. It's in a 5 gallon steel pail so I can carry it easily enough anywhere, set it down and fire it up. The bottom does not get hot and so will not leave a burn scar. The sides get hot enough that you don't want to touch them but not so hot that brushing it will burn you.
It does burn through pellets significantly faster (and puts out a TON of heat) than I had hoped for but pellets are cheap. I'm thinking of taking a cooler filled with beers and a bag of pellets out to the trash fence and seeing who shows up. Is there any rules against burning things out on the deep playa, other than the burn scar issue, and obviously exercising a responsible level of vigilance?

Probably can't do it.melodiousdirge wrote: Is there any rules against burning things out on the deep playa, other than the burn scar issue, and obviously exercising a responsible level of vigilance?
Art installation that involve fire on open playa go through a thorough vetting process at the ARTery. I'd guess they don't want random people sparking it up out there, but may be wrong. Ask when you get there- it may be that you need to register your "Fire Art" and get some type of placement?
Also... I know that 5 gallons of water are required for theme camps. If allowed, the same requirement would probably apply on open playa.
Love the pit/stove/mini-barrel !

Set out all my bins with labels--each label is a piece of paper with the bin category written on it, placed on the floor in front of the bin; I don't actually label the bin until I'm sure that I don't need to switch it out for a smaller one. Packed all the gear that I have in my apartment, minus costumes (still many of those in progress).

Yeah I dunno. The primary purpose is for it to reside in my camp for late night warmups. I thought it would be fun to take out to the fence one night and sit around a "camp fire" but I'd hate to have it result in attention from LE and have to try to explain that it's really safe. I didn't realize at first quite how much flame was going to be coming out the top though. It would be a lot easier to get away with out there if it was just a warm red glow.FIGJAM wrote:At the very least you'll wind up explaining it to all the naysayers.

The replacement solar charge controller is in route - should have time to swap it out and get the system running.
Have ice cash stash ready to go.

Now, time to reserve a camping spot in sparks, and alert my bank of my travel plans.

Went to the library and made copies of my 2nd confirmation e-mail.Now I am doubly confirmed.
Got stopped on the way in my 2 stroke Harley golf cart by the PoPo. She gave me a ride back to my house to get my mobility scooter.
Now I am on my way to the bank to get some cash to buy gas and food.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Couldn't you just rig up a platform on your bike/trike? Something as simple as a trimmed piece of plywood on the seat and a sandbag to make it sit level? That would satisfy the "fire barrel height above playa" rule. I know I've seen bikes and trikes with torches and things on 'em, though those flames are held really high to satisfy the MV height of flames above groundlevel requirement (even though they weren't on MVs).melodiousdirge wrote:Yeah I dunno. Cleaned the sand out of our tent (we took it to the beach, no sandy MOOP here). Plus it was good practice hanging in a tent while the heat index was 108. The heat I am prepared for. Rain, no thanks. Prepared, but don't want any.

Test run of my tent/shade structure. Same setup as last year, just rearranged slightly to maximize use of space.
Bought a small folding table to put inside said shade structure.
Bought the last of my non-food supplies...baby wipes, batteries, sunscreen, etc.
Doing laundry now so I can get all my clothing together in one pile.
