Wait times at the Gate?
Ok, my only time not as EA was in 2005 & Monday at noon wasn't more than an hour or so. My newbie friend has eschewed my advice to leave Reno at 8am Sunday morning, and was told by another burner to expect the trip in later on Sunday to be in the range of 10-12 hours minimum. So is this likely to be correct? I've no idea.
Now this is the same friend who freaked when someone else told her there was no way she'd find our camp even though I told her repeatedly we were placed and will have a fixed address. This was solved by showing her and her less excitable copilot the map & how to get to 7 & B. damn, I really should be packing!

Re: Wait times at the Gate?
No one knows since it's a new gate opening situation this year, but yes ,last year for example the lines on Sunday were quite long, several hours for sure. 10-12 might be an extreme but who knows? Brace for it.
Re: Wait times at the Gate?
I don't think 10-12 is that crazy. Last year, we left Sacramento at 3:00PM on Sunday, and got to our campsite at 3:00AM. Considering Sacto to Reno is 2 hours, it took ten hours to get from Reno to camp on opening day, almost all of that sitting in traffic the last 30 miles. Bring your patience.

They're now thinking of leaving Reno between 4-6 am Monday. Better idea?

Re: Wait times at the Gate?
Regardless of when you leave on Sunday/Monday I would plan for 10-12 hours as these are peak times. Can't really predict the future this year since the gate changed its opening, but it could take anywhere from a few hours to many. Just be prepared for the wait or come after Tuesday if you don't as bad of traffic.pink wrote:They're now thinking of leaving Reno between 4-6 am Monday. Better idea?

Re: Wait times at the Gate?
I don't think it's going to be quick anytime Sunday or Monday, but Monday AM will almost certainly be better than anytime on Sunday. I would let them know it's a completely new situation for everyone, the Gate is opening 8 hours earlier than last year (and 14 hours early than historically), so we're in uncharted water. I suggest really good music to listen to, and lots of it.

Re: Wait times at the Gate?
Ok, it's fucking Wednesday early, and I've been sitting at Apex again for over 45 minutes. They won't let my will call passenger just go over & pick up a ticket. Every 5 or 10 minutes they let a car move. WTF?

Re: Wait times at the Gate?
The early entry line last year was weird too. Same congestion...waited 3-4 hours on early Thursday. It looked like a lot of Apex people standing around twiddling whatever was handy, then suddenly realizing they should let a car through.

Re: Wait times at the Gate?
Same stories are currently popping up on FB. Long ass line barely moving, if at all.
I understand limiting or slowing the number of vehicles leaving the dirt, but what could be the reason for slowing the line down entering the city?? Wasn't the $40 VP suppose to fix this?

Re: Wait times at the Gate?
Seems to be some confusion about the vehicle passes as well as short staff. I don't have any more details.

Re: Wait times at the Gate?
Yeah, we got the answer of short staff. Think I'm gonna come up Tuesday next year. And yeah, I was stuck in the same shit last year. Took about 2 hours from Apex to camp, and when I pulled up I had about 4 or 5 vehicles in front of me at Apex.

Same. The disorganization at entry is pretty pathetic.pink wrote:Yeah, we got the answer of short staff. Think I'm gonna come up Tuesday next year. And yeah, I was stuck in the same shit last year. Go ahead and help them out then?

*eyeroll* No, as traffic flow and event management aren't my areas of expertise. They are, or should be, the areas of expertise of the org, however.Fan C wrote:Go ahead and help them out then?DrYes wrote:Same. Next time you have a problem with literally anything (the US government, a movie, a concert, whatever), are you going to make the choice between not rendering an opinion or helping them? Do you frequently charge back into the kitchen at a restaurant to help them after you've had a bad meal or slow service?
