Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
90% packed. Genny is tuned up, spare parts purchased and packed, new external tank fitted with adapters/fuel filter, hour meter installed, all parts tested. Laundry mostly done. Only 4 small things left on on the 'to be purchased' list besides food/gas/water, which we'll get in Reno. Air BnB lodging is secured in Flagstaff and Reno.
Tomorrow we pack clothes. Then, when the trailer is back from getting fitted with a tire/license plate light, we load up. Planning to leave at 8pm on Thursday night.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Oh absolutely. I actually have a flat bed trailer for my trike that would work for that. I don't know that the elevation issue would be the only issue though. I can see sitting down, firing it up, and shortly thereafter being blinded by headlights and pestered with questions.BoyScoutGirl wrote:Couldn't you just rig up a platform on your bike/trike? Something as simple as a trimmed piece of plywood on the seat and a sandbag to make it sit level? That would satisfy the "fire barrel height above playa" rule. I know I've seen bikes and trikes with torches and things on 'em, though those flames are held really high to satisfy the MV height of flames above groundlevel requirement (even though they weren't on MVs).

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
FINALLY found 1-ply camping TP. It's been a bit of a battle this year. Every other camping roll I've found in the default world has been 2-ply or sold in a pack of 24. It's enough to start making me hoard 1/2 rolls of Scot tissue (which I don't especially want to do).
And the customary body wash. Easier to lather with than soap, when you're using minimal water!

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Loaded my gear, and others' gear, onto the Videogasm truck last night. So, so much fun and REAL-ness to hang out with burners and get a coating of playa dust on my boots and jeans from gear.

Nice work on the trailer FM!
A bit more assembly than the kits I used to bolt together back in the day.
They were completely finished with paint, holes, everything. Just had to bolt on the tongue, axle and the box full of parts.

Truck is in shop for rear axle seals and brakes.
Wont be able to pack until late afternoon.
I was hoping to load it during the day today and then look for forgotten things
but it will get done, just later then wanted.
Last minute packing of clothes bin and searching for items
that were purchased and somehow misplaced.

Yes, Videogasm is in Snowflake Village. 2:45 and keyhole/E. I'm camping with the Pretty Pickle Camp crew over at 9:15 and H. It should be a fun adventure to trek the gear...FlyingMonkey wrote:bluemiragemi wrote:I like that idea, it's worth a shot!YAY HOME!

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Today is pre-playa hair dying and pedicure day, and then the fresh foods shopping. I'm 95% packed, other than stuff I'm still using at the moment. Have to pack the bag for the kids to take to grandma's house today (they fly early early Thurs morning). .
Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Cooked the sausages/peppers/onions for the M&G and have them frozen in the freezer.
Also some egg bakes for breakfast in the freezer.
Ordered the ice cream bars
Ensured a supply of Dry Ice for the chest cooler
Will put the chocolate chip cookie dough together tonight and scoop them into cookie sized balls for baking on the playa.
That is all

The next morning you will wake up pretty much your old self except that a very unusual 16 hours will have been added to your store of life experience.
Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Making turkey burger today, bagging in gallon freezer bags. Freezing till Thursday, when I leave. Shelter poles and parts bagged. Golf cart gassed up. Cash from bank ATM for travel expenses. Lard and tortillas for turkey tacos. No plates, no napkins: full grease experience (bring your own towel.). 30 gallon water barrel near truck, will fill Thursday. Truck here to be loaded tonight and Wednesday. Separated cardboard from yard pile for recycling. My puppies will be at the house, Darlene will visit daily. She wants to go in 2015.
I will be attending VA Stand-down in Marysville on Thursday morning, they gift veterans camping gear. I guess I will be leaving from there after lunch. See y'all Sunday about noon.

Had to cook up more pulled pork as our camp dinner group expanded. Time to pop the trailer up and start loading in. I leave on Friday.

Took the tow rig into my mechanic for a pre-trip inspection. Then brought it home and did an oil/filter change on it.
Loaded all the long and flat crap (tables and such) on top of the art car and strapped it all down.
Re-did the 'To-do' lists.

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
2nd to last minute shopping done. All that's left to buy is fresh foods.
Condensed 4 large bins of crap into 3 large bins of crap.
Added the poles and fittings to make my monkey hut 5 feet longer so I have some extra shade in the front. Couldn't find a tarp the right size for a 4 rib hut so I'll just use 2 tarps and figure something out when I get there.

Learned how to weld aluminum last night, almost finished the frame for my keg cooler. Haven't even thought about packing yet.

I leave in about 24 hours so today is all the small last minute crap.
Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
We are already on the road, and all is well so far! Will be finalizing the grocery list today while we lounge around in a hot tub, which in my opinion is the best way to finalize lists of anything.

Bought all the alcohol and all the food except perishables, will get those on the way. Spent more on booze than I did on food...that means I'm doing it right, yeah?

Re: One item for BMan 2014 a day
Plan on leaving in the wee hours. A bit more space in the vehicle this year. Only thing left to do is wake, wash and make a few sandwiches for the first leg to Chicago. I'm going to split a baguette between freshly picked basil and tomatoes(from the garden) with brie and in-house roast beef and Swiss.
I'm going to strive on this trip to avoid all that crappy fast food at rest stops by stopping at markets along the way to grab sandwich stuff. Granted, not the best, but certainly an improvement over salt and fat laden dried up burgers and greasy chicken or whatever. Sandwiches are easy to eat while driving (if you have to do the two).
Remember your ticket!

Success!
I finally got my solar generator up and running. The replacement charge controller was delivered today - swapped it out and it does what it's supposed to do...
It's in the van and ready to go.
Just the last minute stuff left to do tomorrow.

i am very excited. canned walt disney chilly for the week packed, welded bike rack on back of spare tire holder on the rv that hangs high enough to walk under and hang a sun shower. Very nassa like design. ebola masks i mean dust masks packed. I have a feeling it is going to rain from watching the weather the last month or so, so i have long rubber boots and big poncho from army surplus store, $18 boots, really good price for boots. practicing smiling in the mirror, did not work well, sort of, to tired from running to the back to see if my cards are maxed out yet. just kidding sort of. The rv has a new a/c dash area, water pump, rear air bags, tuned up, rear axle greased, new tires, batteries 2 6volt for house to kill, the gocool fan that works on batteries and has spiting water as well is a great design. about $39. got the bills paid ahead of time, piles of storage to peek and pack, this is fun to have a sort of design contest and different angle of lifes little gifts of light packages of mass being used in eternity for now. feels modern, liberating, bring freedom from the desert playa unused for many years not a place of origin for deep life, modern times a drift, working for nothing but fun, no work included. thank god for burning man just the getting ready is worth going, who cares what happens. I tell the bank teller i am going to burning man, they say what, it is an older persons wood stock, a modern rave like art city for a week that cost more than college. WHat!, its an orgy of innovation, a freak of nature on earth, the start of the new world order based on love, the worth while goodness of man heaven on earth, it is a dirty old desert that cost a lot of money and work.
If robin williams would have gone this year he would have waited another month. THen done th VAN go thing.
