What am I forgetting?
damn it!
I know I'm forgetting something.
But, can't figure what.
What have others forgotten, only realizing when you got there........"awe crap, it's on the table at home"......or wherever.

My boonie hat. IMO, one of the best pieces of desert gear you can wear.
I had to stop at a bigboxstoremart in Reno to get one. I got the last one they had.

Re: What am I forgetting?
You're forgetting what board it goes on.
I'm nudging this over to the Q&A board, since that's a better fit for general preparation discussions.
Pack everything, Yggy, that's the only way to be sure you get everything. Despite my best efforts, every year I manage to forget something and have to deal with the fallout. I'd start making a list, but then I'd forget to put things on the list, or some other variation. My gf rocks lists pretty well, I shoot from the hip and try to methodically go through a particular section of the house as I'm packing. Good luck with your prep, and I'll see you soon!

Re: What am I forgetting?
I have an ever-evolving packing list. Haven't forgotten anything. My usual challenge is setting out from camp on bike at night and doing 3-4 turnarounds for something minor.
I would say this year add (which I haven't brought before) rain/mud gear, mud boots/putty knife, extra tarps & real groundcloth, something to read if stranded, more batteries for reading, 4 days extra drinking water. Good idea to pack a couple extra days off work if it all goes poo. Someday it will.

Last year I forgot fishnets & flip-flops.
DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN TO YOU.
My batteries were also a little on the old side, I think (because they kept running out faster than they ought to have), I had only one pair of sunglasses, and I ran out out of pop-up kleenex for my tent and had to start cannibalizing the travel packs.
Brutal conditions, but I prevailed.
The lack of slip-on shoes was actually the worst. I had to wear my boots too much during downtime.

Re: What am I forgetting?
To remember what parts I need to bring for bicycles, I look at a bicycle, slowly, meticulously, from one end to the other, top to bottom, and write down all the parts that may need replacing. And the tools needed.
Of course, the best way to bring these parts is to bring several complete bicycles and cannibalize as needed.
But more important than remembering to bring Stuff, is being able to find it. Better organization and labeling of everything I bring would make up for many items not brought!

A watch. So used to looking at my phone, I forgot a watch last year. Bought one at the roadside circus in Gerlach. It worked intermittently. Also every single vendor I asked said, "It's playa time man. Just relax."

Toothbrush. One year I forgot it, and had a rough couple days until someone saved my burn by gifting me a travel toothbrush.
Re: What am I forgetting?
Forgot to change out my plastic bike pedals to metal. Seeing Elliot's post reminded me! Where is Elliot this year? (Just in case).

I am forgetting that I don't need as much food as I think I do. Less Less Less. But just in case....
The next morning you will wake up pretty much your old self except that a very unusual 16 hours will have been added to your store of life experience.
