Burning Man Entry Closed (rain) - Monday 2014

Due to rain, vehicles are not able to drive on the playa. This includes from the payment onto Gate Road.
Burners are being asked to not leave Reno for the playa. Wait until it is announced that Gate Road is open again by OFFICIAL channels.

BMIR reports vehicles on the playa in line to enter are stuck there, waiting for the mud to dry.

In other news, the Nixon gas station was out of gas yesterday afternoon.
When you do come, it is advisable to gas up before heading North from Fernley.

BMIR (http://www.bmir.org/) announced that:

Due to the rain, Burning Man will be closed for Monday.

Vehicles on the highway North of Fernley will be sent back to Reno by the State Patrol.
State Patrol advises that people are not to turn around on the highway by themselves. State Patrol will be going down the line, and assisting a safe turn around and directing everyone back to Reno.
Only residents are allowed onto Highway 447.

Rain continues on playa. Playa access closed until further notice. Stay in Reno or nearest city. No event traffic currently allowed on 447.

Why?
After a certain amount of water lands on the playa, it takes time for it to dry out so that vehicles can move on it.
And once it has dried out enough, they'll need time to clear the people currently stuck in their vehicles in the line to Gate.

At BRC, ice sales only at Center Camp, not at 3:00 and 9:00.
Note: porta potty servicing trucks can't move either...

Gerlach webcam is showing it's cleared off. Note that it will take time for the playa to dry out before it can be driven on. So do not head out until OFFICIAL notice is given that access to the playa is open again.

no one wanted my grilled cheese sandwiches last halloween, so i went back to burning just a few days of the year.

I talked with a Pershing County Commishioner who stated that a sign has been put up on east side of Lovelock warning approaching burners. He said Fernley and Reno are filling up. Good news for inn keepers.

Now we need time for the edge of the playa (where rain water accumulates off of the hills) to dry out so access to/from the playa is restored.
