Playa is flooded, gate is closed until Tuesday am at the very soonest. If anymore rain comes in it might be days before gate opens.

Not sure. I mean if this year would have worked out I would have been out there on sat and missed this crap. I can Handel just hanging out in camp.
So ya, spending the week painting a 5 foot by 3 foot weirwood tree on canvas to occupy my self while watching the live feed.

Just don't drink and forget where you are and end up hoping on your bike and riding naked down to the local bar while asking people you meet on the way if you can use their shower.

This joint is a ghost town now. I guess I'll just climb right over the bar and help myself.

It's always been that kind of bar, Captain.

I know it's early but I need a drink! I was filling out a job application on line. Almost done, and I lost my online connection. I hate when that happens. The only thing their system had saved was my log in. Had to enter it all again... Hate when that happens. I think I will a shot of vodka now.

So, is there a crazy huge amount of ticket fraud this year? Or is it always this bad? There's the guy who's been defrauded 3 times, for instance. Or is it just that there's no tickets this year, which means fraud has a lot of room to flourish?

I'd start a thread about it in the ticket sub-fora, but I'm not crazy. In a week or so.

I wouldn't trust anyone except a good friend to send me a ticket after I send them all that money.
Good god I can't wait for the last minute ticket beggars to be gone.

Seems to be an awful large number of people using methods of payment that have no recourse. Even though this is warned about, and there's enough examples of where this caused/allowed scams.

And, how many of those I-need-a-ticket-I-got-scammed are just cons for sympathy. A number of them just don't sound right...

Yeah. And really, got scammed three times and looking for a forth? If he's paying $420 a pop, that's fifteen hundred dollars, more or less. Wow.

For some people, it's kinda like getting hit by lightning. If you've been hit, compared to the general population you're more likely to get hit again. Why? You have a proven track record of making choices that resulted in your getting hit, and getting hit certainly wouldn't make you any smarter.
Like the guy in the town that liked going out onto the metal bridge over the river to watch thunderstorms.

But it does beg the question, how some like that ends up with the money to spend like that...

I actually know someone who was hit by lightening. I think twice, but it may have been in the same storm. Small boat (kayak? canoe) on the Potomac, iirc.

She didn't really like the "hit by lightening" comparisons.

Looks like Trilo was here long enough to get the multiple threads posted by a couple of desperate people and to change a name.

Thanks, Trilo.

(Discussion about whether or not it's a good thing he can do that from the playa ensues.)

I had Internet from the playa last year... see my old thread "Live From Burning Man".
Being able to see my own weather sources, radar, etc. was why I didn't scramble to bug out early like almost everyone else.
There was no damn rain coming! I wonder if they are gonna use that again this year. It was effective last year and even more believable this time.

Internet access on the playa is generally spotty and unreliable at best. Fortunately the other members of the mod team and I are able to get online (using the same super secret patented technology that lets us get Burning Blog and twitter updates out) very intermittently throughout the week to try and play wack-a-mole with spam and take care of the bigger fires. Please flag what you feel should be reviewed, and we'll check it out when we can. Thanks in advance for your continued awesomeness.

I'm here, got my camp up and running, survived build week and yesterday's weather, and am having a great burn. The other moderators and I got together for drinks yesterday, a good time was had by all. Glasses will be raised to you all... repeatedly... at the MnG and throughout the week. Cheers!

Word has it that the 9:00 side of town is absolutely packed and the 3:00 side is much more sparse. I wonder what's up with that?

Population density on the 9 side has been an issue for the last few years. I haven't been out and about yet and don't know how the back streets on 9 compare to 3, but it wouldn't surprise me. Too many people want to be stumbling distance away from Distrikt, or seem to think that 7:30 is the red light district or gayborhood. The secret is, THE WHOLE CITY is filled with sauciness and people of every orientation are EVERYWHERE. If you don't have a reason to camp on 9, head to 3. It's more spacious, and will have cleaner portos (fewer people using the same number of potties).

Yesterday's rain caused something of a playa disaster movie (though I liked my 6 inch playa mud platforms), but things are returning to what passes for normal around here.
