Missed another burn

Post by deedly » Mon Sep 01, 2014 2:58 pm

Hello, My name is Dan and I am a wannabe from Georgia that is making plans to attend in 2015. Burning man has been calling for awhile now, but I have not been able to attend. I have a lot of road travel and camping logged in because I am an old deadhead and followed the band for many years. I have a hole in my soul that I think maybe Burning man can fill. I have been to Bonaroo for the first 4 times, and haven't been last few years but Burning Man looks like it will top all the festivals I have attended. Any burners from GA? If so let me know the best route to take when driving from Atlanta. Thanks. "deedly"

I'm from Georgia. I've been once and am returning next year. Because I had never driven across country before I went north then west first (missouri, wymoing, utah and everything in between). I returned the south route (arizona, texas, bama and everything in between)

The most important thing is being prepared. Read the BM guides and read a ton of these boards. Ask all the questions you can think of.

Welcome & maybe I'll see you in the dust next year!

Thanks for the welcome. I see by looking at the map the routes you most likely took. Tell me which one ( north-west or south-west) was the easies drive, quickest, less traffic, etc. How long did you allow for travel to get there and then back? I think if I start preparing and planning now I might be ready next year> maybe.

You need two days each way to drive. I reserved a hotel and a camp ground on my way in, hotels on the way home at where i thought i'd make it driving. It worked out. The southern route is a bit shorter but if you've never seen the northern route it is so amazing. (I've traveled a lot on the east coast so mid west and west was so different for me)

Having help driving is ideal. I did most of it myself and got really tired. I may schedule myself another 1/2 day each way next year to do a bit more sight seeing along the way.

Hi Deedly!

No one can promise you that the Burn will fill the hole in your soul (it might, but it might very much not) . . . but it will at least be an adventure, and you will see some mind-blowing creativity, and get dust in places you never expected.

Bring some cornstarch baby powder, thick lotion, and some lemon juice and wipes to clean your feet. :D
