That's one word I regret googling during breakfast.
.
Video games are giving kids unrealistic expectations on how many swords they can carry.
.
, but don't harm the red dragon that frequents the area from time to time. He and I have an agreement.

saw this 6ft 4" Rock Hudson looking dude ,in a tight red dress and a red bow on his head , and red heels . He was prancing about in the middle of the street. As I approached he looked right at me , so I said " nice dress" and he said "thanks babe" and there camp gave me a snow cone

When did whippets in seltzer bottles become so popular? Or am I some uninformed naive oldster? I passed a place that I swear there were over a hundred canisters (cartridges?) on the ground...

Re: Welcome back to default. Share with us burn stories!!
We sat in camp and watched what I assume to be a poorly installed monkey hut get picked up by the wind, sucked about a 100 feet in the air and parts of it blown to Gerlach. Literally. It was so small in the sky by the time we lost site of it. The interesting part of this was this was one of three monkey huts. The ones on each side of it were untouched. And it wasn't windy. We assumed it was an isolated dust devil that selected that one monkey hut for sacrifice.
We saw the same thing happen the next day on the next street over to an easy up. Hardly any wind, but this easy up suddenly just uprooted and rolled down the street.

Skippy I saw the same thing happen. There was a loud cheer outside and we all ran into the road to see a tarp being carried up and away by a dust devil.
Best moment by far was a friend receiving a pizza from her future self. Two ladies walked into camp with a red pizza delivery bag and ask my friend her name. She responds and they confirm her name, then tell her that her future self sent a pizza for her to enjoy on the playa.

There is no one right way to Burn, but there are certainly a handful of wrong ways.

Went to experience Distrikt one morning.
Sounded like 100,000 watts, but it didn't look like all the pics I had seen.
I just couldn't figure out what was so different.............

Re: Welcome back to default. Share with us burn stories!!
I realized a week before this Burn (my first!) that my H7 hexayurt, lovingly constructed over the period of a month, was made of R-Tech. That styrofoam crap. There was no time left in my schedule to rebuild it from the good shit. I went with it, though, and packed an Instant 10 tent in case of fuckery. We brought extra bifilament.
It rained like hell the first day, and every time the wind blew real hard, I spent time in camp nervously staring at the structure waiting for it to fall apart, and ended up reinforcing the interior seams with tape. Somehow, having the vent set in the opposite wall to the door saved me - the door blew hard in the wind, which flowed through the vent. The RVs positioned all around me defrayed the wind. Somehow, my piece of shit stayed up, didn't crack, and the moop from setup and takedown was contained inside of the yurt, and ultimately, inside of the tarp it was taped to.
Next year I'm getting the good shit. I do not recommend emulating my experience with the R-Tech. The stuff is fragile, scary, and prone to mooping. I got really lucky.

I won Burning Man about infinity times. A minor example had to do with my smartphone.
As of about about 60 miles out from Gerlach I had no reception on my phone. (apart from wi-fi briefly while stuck in Gerlach) But what I didn't expect was to have my iPhone indirectly drowned by the storm on Monday morning. After I was up and about Monday morning, I put the bottom of the iphone into a non-vented camping chair pocket with inch of water in it, no case for about 20 minutes! This caused the phone's screen to start doing some crazy stuff, the buttons stopped working and i had to use accessibility mode. It still played music for about an hour before it died completely showing the connect to iTunes recovery mode thingy.
I was unable to take photos, look up people's camps I was planning to meet and *gasp* not able to use the live map of BRC with my blue dot in it to get around.
This turned out to be the biggest blessing. I immediately decided I didn't need to take photos, I would live completely in each moment. I decided I would learn to get around BRC using the street signs, landmarks and the sun (as you should!). And that I would meet those planned folks if they happened to come into my Burn.
I also realized that reception or not, it really was not cool to have a nagging its way into your experience out there. At least it didn't seem so to me. So it was nice to dodge having any reason to carry it for the first half of the experience.
Amazingly, the iPhone dried out to where it could take photos again by Thursday or so. And is now almost fully back to to working order! (the screen is still a little weird at the top)
So I still have some great photos of memories and camps riggings to geek out in prep for next year.

I got a pizza too! I was with a few campmates doing our dramatic reading of 50 Shades of Grey at Playa Broadcasting Network & a trike rolls up & asks if anyone ordered a pizza, & I said I did. I was asked what type of pizza, and she rattled off three different types. I chose fresh buffalo mozzarella, pine nuts & fresh tomato.Mista_Zero wrote:Skippy I saw the same thing happen. Damn it was good!!! I apparently ordered it two weeks in the future, knowing I'd want pizza on the playa. Gotta remember to do that next week.

Dogs are the leaders of the planet. If you see two life forms, one of them’s making a poop, the other one’s carrying it for him, who would you assume is in charge?

I got a fucking medal for winning Burning Man! Seriously, I did, and will post pictures when I get it unpacked. There's a signed certificate and patch, very nice.
Excellent burn, although I was sick all of Friday, to the point I missed Rocky Horror! Had to have someone fill in my role. Bummer.
And we got to fly over BRC, that was amazing, even though I did not connect with the generous Bacchus. Puzzling, as we were both right where we were supposed to be. The ride wrangler and a pilot named Bobby made it happen. Whoot!

Re: Welcome back to default. Share with us burn stories!!
Your loss was my gain, I guess. I had a wonderful ride with Bacchus. And while I forgot to bring a friend, a massage therapist from SF, who I kept bumping into everywhere, turned up at the airport and I brought him along.
It was amazing!
One of my favorite stories from the burn was the guy who tried to invite me to a party at retrofrolic. We were both at the potties as United Services was starting up the pumps and the smell was wafting over the area. I couldn't hear him, so finally he leaned in and shouted "I'm trying to flirt with you while they pump out the porto potties. It's a super classy move!"

Re: Welcome back to default. Share with us burn stories!!
Some time about when the Man was burning down, my wife and I decided that she maybe oughta spend a couple weeks with DPW dismantling the city this year, for a change of scenery.
I took off at 7AM the next morning with a campmate and two suitcases, leaving her with the car and trailer and shade structures and bikes and two other lady campmates to figure it out. Many texts with specific "Where does this go?" questions followed.
She's having a blast. I hope she returns in a week or two.

I noticed many more live bands and alot of the art cars were playing old music , or old stuff mixed. The radio station Kvert on the esplande played Led Zep , stairway to heaven. But it was moderninzed to not make it boring. Heard 3 diff art cars play " Baby I got your Money " which was posted in the forum here by someone awhile back.
