Re: West Nile... Fake or Real
I think the Nile is real but I'm not sure about the West part?
Don't believe everything you think.

It is a possibility. But so are many other things.Canoe wrote:...Most people who get it will only experience somewhat of a malaise, usually recovering within a week or two.
A much smaller percentage will feel sick for a week or two, possibly with mild fever(s), some aches and pains.
A very small percentage of those contacting West Nile are at risk. Usually, but not always, it's those whose body is already weakened by other medical conditions...

When to see a doctor
Mild symptoms of West Nile fever usually resolve on their own. If you experience signs or symptoms of serious infection, such as severe headaches, a stiff neck, disorientation or confusion, seek medical attention right away. A serious West Nile virus infection generally requires hospitalization.

The girl across the street from me, (5:25 & H), worked Gate. She was covered in mosquito bites that she kept getting throughout the week. I think she got them at the Gate because I didn't see a one and I would have been eaten alive. Mosquitos love me.

That sort of describes my decompression so far... It's gonna be tough to tell if I'm sick if a fever doesn't develop.Canoe wrote:...Most people who get it will only experience somewhat of a malaise, usually recovering within a week or two.

Interesting that mayoclinic.org states "Most people infected with the West Nile virus have no signs or symptoms."
Explains why so few seem to get it, even when in a high West Nile area.
Also from mayoclinic.org, that 20% of those infected show mild infection symptoms: Fever, Headache, Body aches, Fatigue, Back pain, Skin rash (occasionally), Swollen lymph glands (occasionally), Eye pain (occasionally).
Remember that what you describe could be due to something else entirely.

Re: West Nile... Fake or Real
So how long would it take, using a standard kiddie pool grey water container, to breed West Nile mosquitoes with ebola on the playa? Would adding lavender to the mix in order to pass it off as a mineral pedicure soak to the gentrified whose feet are tired from standing on doucheways all day hinder the mosquitoes reproductive cycle? What power source should be used if the mosquitoes are to be equipped with lasers? Looking forward, my hope in the official ticketing process providing me a ticket rests more and more on real bad weather and mosquitoes.
Yeah, I'm exhausted too....anyone know what the lyme disease deer tick count on the playa was this year?

There was also an ebola rumour this year.Lonesomebri wrote: Yeah, I'm exhausted too....anyone know what the lyme disease deer tick count on the playa was this year?
The first I heard of it was in a department meeting when I was told it was false.
The next day I heard it repeated by someone wearing a hepa mask. Hmmm.

I'm nudging this over to the Q&A board, since that's a better fit for general event questions.

Re: West Nile... Fake or Real
Hmmm, we were posted in Gerlach for some days afterward. In a junkyard. Friday I got hit by at least three mosquitos.
Sore and fatigued, but have been that all week, the thing that gets me thinking is an annoying headache. Not bad, Just there.
Whatever, I'm healthy and there is nothing that can really be done about it anyway, right?

Wrong. But just a headache aint it.
We have West Nile and massive numbers of mosquitos.
Even with the constant threat, just about everyone who catches it is very young, very old or immuno-compromised.

Re: West Nile... Fake or Real
Much of our camp were posted in Gerlach from last Tuesday to Saturday morning. I got some mosquito bites on Friday. I didn't find out about any of this until Monday. I'm young and have a strong immune system so I'm not terribly worried about it. I am however experiencing fatigue and sore which is to be expected after a couple hard working weeks. I've had a bit of a headache for days which is starting to become a concern. Over all, I feel alright.
CDC and Mayo both say feeling malaise, whatever. I'm still out and about, not pushing it too hard and am not overly concerned seeing as how there is no vaccine(to the public), what can I do anyhow.
I've heard there was some other sickness passed around at BRC though.
Anyone know anything about that?
Achoo!

West Nile Virus has been present on the east coast for over a decade.

Ha, I thought I was posting on a thread about drunk posting, but the second time seems more what I was trying to convey, only with more time.
