I noticed later in the week that the roads in AEZ had footpaths alongside them. It appeared the village had managed to keep folks from walking on the wet roads and in a straight line so it was only a thin strip of disturbed playa after things dried up.

Did anyone see this or have the foresight to try to keep people from walking around particular areas of camp? I realized I could have kept the playa around my camp so much nicer simply by entering and exiting the road and getting around going over the same paths.

Maybe this is crazy but it would have been way better for biking if we had been able to keep foot traffic on 6 to one side of the street. Or even two by two on the edges. It turned into cobblestone because of boot caking and ant-like paths of people up and about that morning. Most damage would have been prevented by staying off it until 1:30pm. And there weren't that many people in at that point.

I had completely forgotten about shooting this clip during an early part of the Monday rain.

Our whole group made it in on Sunday, before the mudpocalypse. It was cool, wonderful, and very private. :)

I agree. Monday was quite peaceful.

Maneuvering thru the sticky thick mud, I noticed the walkers with stiff knees, lifting their feet high with each step as the mud built up on the bottom of shoes, trying to balance with their arms out stretched....
It looked like the zombie apocalypse had hit the playa along with the rain.

So yeah, we all got in on Sunday.
Grey Coyote and I set up a shade, cooked, met people, and visited. Then set up the dome. So it was fairly late in the day when the structure was up and most of the cover was one.
Grey says to me - we really out to put the rain flap up.
The rain flap is the final top piece. Its complicated to set up because it at the tip top of the dome, and it attaches to the connection for the ceiling fan... yeah, I know... its a complex and time consuming deal.
So Im tired and I say - naw, its the desert, what's it going to do... rain?

I wake up Monday morning with rain AND HAIL coming in the open hole at the top of the dome.
Excellent... we started the adventure with a good belly laugh...
Let GOOD win!

I loved the rain Monday! Got so much done in the tent: washed dishes (with mister bottle, all of 2 ounces of water), washed hair (with 2 cups of water), painted toenails, organized everything in the tent, cleaned the dust off all the solar panels, did all my crossword puzzles, cryptograms and sudokus, listened to BMIR, all in all had a fun and productive day all by myself.

This year, at the last minute before leaving home, I decided to try my garage flooring in the tent... took up just enough for the tent area. It's that thick foam flooring with jigsaw puzzle-like edges that fit together. Usually, I just have a tarp on the ground under the tent. Rain collects on the tarp and the inside floor gets soaked. With that set down, the floor of the tent stayed dry! When the rain was over, I just lifted the sections over low spots, where puddles had collected on the tarp, and sopped them up with a microfiber cloth. These squares are now a permanent component of my camping gear!

Also, it was neat watching the splashes made by the hail... :o

We used those too, they're great for the knees when crawling around the tent!

I just want to send out a word of warning: If you click on some of the other videos from my time at Burning Man this year, you may come across a lot of nudity, both topless and full frontal. If that sort of thing offends you, then please do not click on the links. You have been forewarned.

I was camped with mostly virgins this year. On monday, I woke up to rain and thunder. I walked out of my tent, and saw all of the virgins huddled in the one RV in camp, staring out the windows with wide eyes. I waved, and proceeded to start making mud angels. They looked at me like I was crazy.

Jokes on them, I had a great time. The joke was on all of us after it dried, however: We had angel-shaped ruts and holes all over camp.
