Future Burner from Illinois
Future Burner from Illinois
Hi everyone! I'm Kay. I live in Illinois and I've already started saving up money to possibly attend Burning Man next year. That being said, I'd love to start meeting people as soon as possible. Does anyone know where I can find more information about Illinois or Chicago Regional group? The info I found online is outdated. Thanks everyone, it's nice to meet you.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Your first Burn will be amazing. The more you learn here the better it will be. Welcome!

Re: Future Burner from Illinois
I will absolutely keep this in mind. I'm trying to soak it all in so I can start my prep. There's so much I need to do. That's why I'm hoping to meet some people at some regional events. The more help and opinions, the better off I'll be!kiboy wrote:Your first Burn will be amazing. The more you learn here the better it will be. Welcome!

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

I spent all night last night reading your Birgin's guide. It's extremely helpful. Thanks for the welcome.Drawingablank wrote:Welcome.

Re: Future Burner from Illinois
Hi Kay- I'm one of the RCs for chicago. Welcome!
There is a lot of stuff going on, all the time! Our decompression will most likely be late October, deatails should be published soon. There
Officially, you should sign up for the mailing list. There are two- announce, which is used rarely, and discuss, which is a bit more active, but manageable. These are listed on our regional page here: http://regionals.burningman.com/regiona ... a/chicago/
Un officially, a bunch of things get posted by community members in the FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/chiagoBM/
(I'm working on a dedicated BM Chicago website, but it is kinda happening on burning man time, sorry!)
Our regional, which is awesome, is Lakes of Fire and you can learn more at http://www.lakesoffire.org/
Anyhow, get connected, and you'll see there is stuff happening on a regular basis (usually at least a party or two a month, meet and greets are slated to swing back up on a regular basis, occasional workshps and educational events, etc...
One of my favorite local theme camps, the secret gentlemen's club, is putting together a bike ride next week:
you're lucky. I had no idea there was such a big and vibrant Burner community in chicago until AFTER i got back from my first burn
welcome!

Oh- as a new burner, you would probably really like Newbie Night. It occurs in the summer, and features vets talking new comers through the basics. It's fun and informative! Again, sign up on the lists, and stay tuned. And get involved! Decomp will need volunteers. Any community member can propose (or just do!) a meet and greet, etc.SECRET GENTLEMASS
