Little-known trivia bit, Capt. GD is a native of New Orleans.

arrr, I missed talk like a pirate day. Oh, well, it was a chapter closing, last day at work. I hung out with a few friends after work last night, and went out to dinner with promises of getting together etc. A few folks who I thought seriously disliked me, have walked by me for years never saying hello (even after being said hello to) gave me hugs and said they'd miss me. (C'mon people, you have to put that into your daily life. SAY HELLO fer cryin' out loud.)

Hi Lucky!
Got the wall all stacked, pinned and concrete columns poured behind yesterday, so, yay that. I'll get some photos up when I can figure how to download from my camera.....aahaha

dang smokey here today. the fire has grown to 76K acres, they said hardly any growth the last few days, yet it's only 10% contained......not sure how that works.

Hooray and congrats, Elorrum. I know that feeling though, when I left a job I had on the east coast to move west back in 2002 people who hardly said two words to me during the years I worked there suddenly came up and started gushing about how much I was appreciated and would be missed. They were kind words to hear, but I didn't really know what to think. I only hope that with other coworkers and subsequent employers, they found a way to convey that to people before their going away shindig.

Mmmm stickybuns...

Looks like a gray and overcast day in SF, but errands, explorations, farmer's market, and a photo safari awaits. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hi All. Saw the wall on FB, YG. Looking good. Miss you guys. Was looking at some Burning Man videos on Face Book. How many days till the Man burns?? Too long.

Elorrum, today is the first day of the rest of your life! I guess that's true for all of us, so carpe diem for sure. I can still taste those great bacon tamales. And can see Elliot in my mind's eye, standing by Millicent fixing bikes. What a guy! His generous sharing of his generator kept my scooter going all week. David Brooks wrote an article in the NY Times yesterday about friendship that so touched what happens as we all share at BRC. The intimacy, the immediacy sure has made some very enduring and treasured friendships for me. Just sayin

looks like a fun time in S.F.

Dang smoke is bad here again. It seems the fire is not growing so fast, just over 81,000 acres today, and we have cooler weather and the chance of some rain up there......but dang, seems the steep terrain just prevents fighting this fire.

I have my own opinions on fire fighting technique, and feel some of what they do is driven by politics, rather than containment......

Good morning Bar! Nice coffee this morning. :coffee:
I wonder if my garage has automatically organized itself, washed all playa dust away, and reduced in volume.
Doubtful, so I guess I'm doing the shlep and rinse today. Lovely weather here, and it's nice to be outside.

and tomorrow you do NOT have the same problems of work
Yes, life is new restart every day.

I only did one of the music events instead of 3...older? or wiser ?
or because I was called in to help setup early and never left the first event.
now I need to make my excuses for the noshow and find some muscle relaxant.

My daughter is flying in late tonight , which means chaos and the rest of my fam checking in as well.
Then she is flying out to Madrid tomorrow morning.
I suggested that I join in with that part of her itinerary; but she has, as always, definite plans.
So, food for the frig so the fam can feed as wished and energy drink for me.

Cold and rainy here. Went to Costco, spent too much money, even though I kept putting things back. Went to Lowe's yesterday and found all the plants were half price; my front porch looks like a mum farm. So pretty!

Ygmir, whatever you do, PLEASE be careful. I'm going to go a little Shakespearean on you.....I come here to praise you, not bury you. Seeing you entering those batwing saloon doors made me think (however briefly) of the theme from the movie, "The Magnificent Seven" -

[media]

My weekend has been pretty doggone good.

Got home on Friday, and before hitting the sack, the laundry was done and the apartment was spotless. That meant the WEEKEND WAS MINE and mine alone. This was after having dinner with my friend Don and his girlfriend. We've eaten out together every Friday night for the last three or four years when we're all in town. Same table, same restaurant. We know the menu. When they see us coming, they set up the table and have hot coffee for all of us ready. The cook, Jeff, I actually tipped during the holiday season because it was the right thing to do in my mind - he always makes sure the ingredients are fresh and that the food gets to the table hot.

Saturday I took a little shopping trip to 'top off' on groceries and gas, and had it all put away and I was ready at 6:30 to go see Joe Willett and his Jazz Ensemble at Original Jack's, the gourmet restaurant about 6 blocks from the house. They have beef marsala that was superb. Topped that off with REAL key lime pie. I know the original locale for the pie...the Coral Grill on Islamorada in the Florida Keys...having eaten there, and it was just the same. Score!

Today was a relax at home day. YAY! I get those all too infrequently. In my job, it's sort of a necessity because I'm on the 24/7 call list in an emergency (except when I have vacation scheduled, otherwise I could be turned around from the trip to BRC). I could be headed anywhere in the state same night for a rockfall event. No calls today, though...another YAY!

Tonight, ENCHILADAS! After Sunbeam's bacon tamales, I'm going to try bacon enchiladas tonight. Why not? Bacon tamales were great, I've made bacon quesadillas before...there's even a restaurant in Springfield, Missouri that serves bacon burritos (they were divine). So, time to get experimenting.

Dunno about Rhino's Enchiladas, But Annie has a smoker and did these spatchcocked chickens that were amazing.

Outstanding. Baked them at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Add a little bacon salt to the top and sprigs of fresh cilantro. Serve on a bed of shredded chopped Romaine lettuce. Onions with the bacon in the filling, along with Colby cheese. Homemade guacamole and Mexican crema (sour cream) on the side. Used Hatch enchilada sauce (green) with black pepper added. Also on the side: carrots with seranno peppers.

Tonight: Kansas City strip steaks.

Squeeee.... princess is pleased!!!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun with that recipe - was it spur of the moment or did you taste, season, taste, season, repeat?

Be sure to have a nice wine with the steak... :) (getting back to the bar theme)
