Propane flame effect hot surface ignitor designs

Post by area42 » Wed Oct 01, 2014 3:20 am

Dear flaming friends,

Does anyone have a design for hot surface ignitors?

I have been building flame effects for sometime and I have been using hot surface ignitors which work well but my simple gas deflector design is too sensitive to wind and gas pressure.

I have about a month until the Dutch Decompression and my flame effects will be so high up that I don't have the option for my usual tinkering to compensate for the wind.

dusty thanks

Have you considered using a pilot flame as opposed to the HSI? Years working in kitchens taught me that hot surface ignitors do not work as well an actual flame.

Redundancy. HSI + spark plug or bbq spark lighter to light a multiple orifice pilot. Wrapped in stainless steel wool. Completely surrounded by a shroud
