Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
To tell you the truth, the best movie I ever saw Jerry Lewis in was "Jumping Jacks" with Dean Martin. Jerry packing the parachute making liberal use of the scissors on the parachute lines was a classic.Elorrum wrote:^Rhino! wrote:Nope, I'm not French, though I do speak the language a little. I was just brought up in a weird town. Imagine living in a town that had more PhDs per square mile than most universities. You tend to founder at an early age unless you make rapid use of the public library to stay abreast of things. Luckily, I had Boy Scouts to even things up a bit, and I did a lot of camping as a result in both junior high and high school. Why not? It put me in good stead for BRC.Elorrum wrote:Rhino, you must be French? I've always appreciated being greeted more conventionally, at least at first.
No, I don't get Jerry Lewis, not more than five minutes of the hyper goof.
I suppose if I grew up in France or a town as horrifically smart as the one you grew up in (not Cupertino, CA, in the 60's, like me) I'd understand, and welcome being shouted at in a Jerry Lewis voice, "Hey Lady" when I walked onto what I imagine is a predominately male worksite, where the men most likely would be the ones broken up by what seems to be an insensitive joke made at my expense. Maybe.
You'd also have to understand that the females on the jobsite were fellow employees doing the work (not passersby), and they loved Jerry's impromptu soundoff. This was the same guy who moved nearly a thousand tons of debris from behind just one bridge using a dragline after the Flood of '93. And he did 50 clean-outs that were just as bad or worse. Jerry's worked for me as a dragline operator, a crane operator, and as a general laborer. I'd trust him with my life, and have on more than one occasion in traffic on I-270 in St. Louis.
I apologize if there was an offense made on my part.

Morning all! Pouring rain here, made it tough to crawl out of bed this morning. Haven't heard an update on the Cali fires in the last few days but I sure hope you all got some of this moisture.

My furnace is on and I brought in the small cacti. Still picked a pint of raspberries though. I should get another pick or two until we have a hard frost.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Evening, all.
Tomorrow marks the last day of the week. Four ten-hour days, and I get a three-day weekend. In the field this week around Columbia, Missouri, working in close proximity to I-70. I had to shut the rig down once today due to lightning in the area. We started up again a half hour later, and all was fine. We finished the exploratory boring we were on, and packed it in because of severe weather on the horizon. The weather reports said there was golf-ball sized hail coming down a few miles down the road, and there was a hook echo on the weather radar. The golf-ball hail is an indicative sidelight to, and the hook echo a definitive clue to, a tornado in the area. Tornado watch all night tonight.
I am, however, more than a little pissed off right now. I had to file SIX 'no response' dig right tickets today, because the utility locators and the companies are not communicating to me. The last time this was 'necessary', I had to threaten the locators and utilities with the 'no response' tickets. Today, I said "FUCK YOU BASTARDS" and filed thE NO RESPONSE TICKETS WITHOUT ANY THREATS.

remind me, is anyone is moving, pretend I'm not home........ahhaha
Just back from Ventura, helping my daughter move. What a job!!
I'll be "herding cats and hippies" this weekend. Got a call from a private security company that they need our "special team" to run gate for a "DJ for world peace and fleece the rich attendees" party. A 24 hours DJ set by some *supposedly* world famous DJ, where people come from all over the world to see him play. But, the rich ones tend to be very "self entitled" and a PITA especially at gate. Funny, the tend to be Russian, Israeli, and French, by a large majority, when this issue arises (this is what the pre event info I have been given,, says). I just hope they speak English, or it's gonna be real tough.
So, this should be fun..........

Yggy, for the record, they ALL speak English even if they pretend not to.
It's pretty much the international business language at this point. Some people over 50 might not, but the youngsters all learn it in school.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Got 'em! I fucked the fuckers trying to fuck me. (Many apologies for not putting this in the 'FUCK' thread, but this is a good 'FUCK', not a bad one....
I made the 6 'no response' tickets yesterday, and by the a.m., ALL of them had responded with the 'Whoops! We're so sorry!' line.
I wasn't having any of it. You'd think a University would know better, especially their IT people. To me, the IT meant Ignorant Traumatizers. The 'guy in charge' didn't even know how to make a positive response. What a fuckwad! So, I edumakated the dumbass, and told him next time to call the number for the 'excavator' on his one-call notification. And then I told him that One-Call charges his org. $1.50 for every 'no response'. He wan't happy, but he'll deal with it.
The cable company STILL thinks they don't have to respond - their contract locator called all apologetic-like.
Dude, that's $1.50/ instance.
I'm fully documented and up to date, and the utilities are clear! (And my blood pressure was 134/78, and I'm 54 years old!)
Excavation begins Monday!

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
Yesterday while at work, I was working south of Reno, near the Bowers Mansion exit, I witnessed a bear cub feeding on a deer. I called NDOW but prior to their arrival, the little guy crossed the frontage road, walked to a pine tree, stood on his hind legs and turned his back to the tree and moved side to side a few times then climbed about 50' up it for a nap. He would've came up to my chest while on his hind legs, I'm 5'6". When NDOW arrived I showed the officer the bear sleeping in the tree. He said he's gonna have to wait the bear out until it comes down to dart it, examine it etc. There's a few expensive houses in the area.
The last time I saw a wild bear was shortly after Costco opened in Carson City which was in 2000, I think. I was coming back from a Ted Nugent concert at the lake and a bear ran across highway 50 near the Costco.
I wish I got a picture of it.

yeah bears.......seems in the last few years, I've seen more than in the past. I wonder if it's that they are gaining population, or, just not as fearful of people.
I've also heard, for the most part, they've stopped hibernating here in the Sierras, because the winters are so mild they just migrate down to better weather/hunting.
Dunno about that, but sort of interesting if true.
Does everyone here know about the Amtrackathon in Jan.?
There's a thread on it,and, I have reserved some suites on the top (party) floor, offering to eplayans first.

Some of our bears here don't really hibernate...not that our winters are mild, just that there are enough people leaving trash out for them to have food all year round. I swear half of the calls to our police department are about a bear in a dumpster (or a tree, or a yard, or a house, or a car). Not at all unusual to see one wandering around town.

Re: The Bar 2014 Edition
I'm not sure if I've told you all about this before, but the Tennessee and North Carolina DOTs actually designed a "bear culvert" so that bears could cross the Interstate through the mountains and do it safely. However, they forgot the simple fact that the eastern black bear will cross the highway any where it wants to.Madgirl wrote:Some of our bears here don't really hibernate...not that our winters are mild, just that there are enough people leaving trash out for them to have food all year round. If true, it shows that bears aren't stupid. Or maybe it shows that nature is dynamic, and when situations change, so do bears.I've also heard, for the most part, they've stopped hibernating here in the Sierras, because the winters are so mild they just migrate down to better weather/hunting.
Dunno about that, but sort of interesting if true.
