Hi From Chicago

Post by bitsychi » Sat Oct 04, 2014 10:42 am

Hi all! I'm Liz from Chicago and I am hoping very much for 2015 to be my first burn. I have wanted to attend for years but now I am finally taking the leap and preparing to make this happen- hence lurking around here reading posts and absorbing advice like a sponge, figured it was more neighborly to come out of the shadows and say HI :D . I'm big into backcountry camping and hiking so I am hoping to repurpose some skills and gear to make a little playa home for myself, but still have a long way to go and lots to learn.

I'm going to try to plug in to some of the stuff going on in the local Chicago scene between now and next August so if any of you are local to this area and go to events, hope to meet you soon!!

Welcome to eplaya.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Welcome to eplaya bitsychi. Soak in our knowledge and let us get to know you. There's plenty of time to become an expert at what to expect. (Then when you get there you can forget all of it and go with the flow). At least you'll be prepared. Howdy!

Yay, welcome. So glad to see someone interested in camping who wants to bring those skills to the playa. That's the biggest issue, not costumes or whatnot. For the most part, if you can camp comfortably out there on the playa, you're gold. As a far greater mind than my own has said, it's a camping trip out in the desert, not the redemption of the fallen world. That was my "intro" to Burner culture; being able to take care of myself out in the wilds. And that you're reading up on the Burn this early in the game for use next year.....oh I hope you get a ticket to join the community. See you in the dust.

Thanks for the warm welcome all! Look forward to chatting online over the coming months, I have already been enjoying some of the great old gear chatter threads. and those threads with folks homemade costumes--- the creativity and resourcefulness is super inspiring. I'm enough of a camping geek that I can easily discuss tents and shelter and staking approaches with anyone who will listen until my non-outdoorsy friends want to cry and abandon me, so this is pure enjoyment in my book- prepping for this one will be a fun project if the ticket gods smile on me in 2015.

Bitsychi, Welcome to the snakepit. There is a temporary disruption by a scant few of very devoted eplayans that are debating issues that in the long run will resolve themselves. (Is that oblique enough to not offend any of the A-holes that are clogging the threads)?

My advice to you is... avoid all threads that people are arguing about P&P camps. It doesn't add to your preparation and it's a huge waste of time. Don't click on any of the links provided as 'proof'. They aren't dangerous as far as viruses or worms go, but they are self-serving fodder for the battle of the single minded.

Please ask any questions that a potential new burner would like answered. There is a wealth of info available from those of us that aren't tied up in juvenile pissing matches. We really do want to get to know you. If you come next year maybe you'll meet us in person at the meet & greet or at one of MANY other camps where eplayans hang out. Welcome.

Hi Bitsychi!
Welcome to eplaya. There are tons of great threads on here with excellent information. I spent a lot of time reading and learning before my first burn - the folks on here have great advice. I was well prepared due to the info on here.

Have fun planning and building.

Hope to see you in 2015.

Hi Liz, I'm Kay. :) I'm also new here, but since we're both from the Chicago area I was wondering if you knew that Chicago's Decomp was announced the other day. Maybe I'll see you there! Info about that here:
