Half of the secret is simplicity. Consider the Man. Before anything exists on the playa, Burning Man begins with a single stake pounded into the ground marking the spot where the Man will stand. This is the axis mundi of Burning Man, the point on which everything converges, from the radiating streets to the final ritual of the burn. The stake itself is the object of a spontaneous ritual: as it is placed each year, each crew-member gives the stake a few hammer-blows to drive it in.

The other half of Burning Man’s secret is transformation. “Just when you are done with one existential challenge, then you encounter another.” For example, in recent years, forty percent of Burning Man’s population are newcomers. “I am pretty comfortable with that – it is new energy that keeps things very much alive,” observed Harvey.

I'm figuring the 100 year plan is to make BRC so elitist and high priced to attend, but with bigger art and entertainment acts, sort of like Indian Casinos vs. Vegas, while franchising out licensed regional burns, and using these to prime the pump for filling vital services in BRC, while the high-flyers can come in and do nothing, but enjoy. The main Burn will continue as sort of a circus for rich people, with low income tickets going to clowns. Pricing, food and choosing activities will resemble going on a cruise. Structured pricing, etc. The Regionals can slowly be transformed also, after all, who owns them?, into something like Sandals Resorts, with Black Rock being the Mecca of Sandals. All radically inclusive services provided and advertised to the elite who want to be cool and hip. It's a business model from here on out.

The good thing about this for the For-Profit apologist here on eplaya and elsewhere is that they are always saying, "we need more information", "once everything is known...", "we will see how this plays out and then I will admit if I was wrong..." Ha, the 100 year plan just gave 'em all a century to studder about how this is an experiment in selling out the Burn for all the right reasons, just sit back, shut up, and see how it plays.....for 100 years.
