Re: Fuck!
tatonka, you're right. I DO think of the happy times. Unfortunately, Katy was also my only company. Yeah, I go to work, but work is work, and I keep it separate from my private times. A week and a half ago, I went with a woman from Jefferson City to one of the many wineries down near Herrmann, Missouri. But that's been my human contact for the month. When you're in the high-profile, decision-making, fully responsible-for-your-own-shit position I am in right now, it's hard to have time to go make friends like I'd like to.
Talking to Kate was like being in Black Rock City.....she never judged me, and loved me for who I was to HER. You don't find that in a University town where you're 20 miles or less from 200 bushel per acre corn. I'm not a farmer.

Oh GAWD ohhawdohgawd. I am so sorry about Katy. The loss of your kitty hurts me, as it is probably hurting you right now. It takes time. I just don't have anything else more to offer, please just do whatever you need to do to process this.i planted an olive tree on top of Lumux. The fre around this fragile tree has clear xmas lights the go on every night, that I can see from my kitchen window.
Someday, there will be another kitty that will need your help.

Re: Fuck!
I join the others in sympathy. I dread the day when my two kids have to transition.
I went through this same thing about 5 years ago, with my little sofi (younger of my two). She lost weight, was jaundiced, wasn't eating, etc. Same as your situation.
I was advised to get some saline solution and some needles, and do the subcutaneous thing. I'm not very good with needles, myself, but the ability to focus on her instead of me was enough to get me through it. It took that, a teeth cleaning, and her passing a kidney stone. She bounced back and is sitting right next to me at the moment.
Her nickname is now "presh", short for "precious".
Regardless, I still have that nagging worry. And I'm aggravated with myself that I didn't check in on this thread in time to make that suggestion.
They can save your life. They did mine. The value in that is more than I can ever repay.

Re: Fuck!
Fuck. Mom's in the hospital. Just kidney stones, but they're operating this afternoon and keeping her overnight. I asked if she want me to come and she said no.
But now I don't know if she really means it or is hoping I'll show up. My dads heading over there soon, which I give him credit for. He is not exactly the most doting husband. He'll probably yell at the doctor and nurses. I think that's his way of showing he cares.
Right now my plan is to wait and see if my dad calls and say to come over.

Re: Fuck!
Okay, maybe I can help this time...
About 3 years ago, in September, I started developing them. Rapidly. Did a lot of reading, and found two things that helped 100%:
1) Swallow a tablespoon or four of olive oil. Sounds unappetizing and it is, I won't kid you. Don't remember how much I drank, but the advice was that it would go straight to the kidney and start enveloping the stones so they wouldn't poke the kidney wall. They were right. Within 15 minutes, the pain was gone.
2) Drink warm or hot lemon water. Squeeze one half to one whole lemon in a teapot, add water, let it steep for a bit, then drink. Continue to do this until the symptoms disappear. It worked. Not only that, but an added bonus was that with the increased Vitamin C intake I didn't have a cold all winter long. Every fall, since, I've drunk at least one pot a day and have had only one cold, last winter, when I got lazy and didn't keep up on it for a month or so.
Hope this helps, and go see your Mom anyway, whether she says to or not. Look at it this way: When you were a kid you did all sorts of things your Mom asked you not to, and it aggravated her. This won't be on that list.

Re: Fuck!
Vulture Chow, kidney stones are a quickie if handled in an operative environment. It happens often enough that it should be routine, like a broken arm or leg. Nothing to worry about. Nonetheless, your mom is in our thoughts and prayers for a rapid and full recovery.VultureChow wrote:Fuck. Mom's in the hospital. And, your plan to wait to see what dad wants is a good one. Stick with it.

Re: Fuck!
Well she had the surgery. Apparently they just put a stent in. The stones were creating a blockage and infection in one kidney, so they have to drain that first.
I went to visit last night and I'm glad I did. I'll pop over again this morning. She asked for her fancy Estee Lauder lip conditioner so I know she's feeling much better
Thank fuckin god.
ETA: Just spoke to dad. They took the stones out as well. So now it's just the stent to help with clearing up the kidney infection.

Vulture Chow, now that it's over with, how would you like to wow your Mom and Dad with some cool knowledge? Nonetheless, I can give it to you here, too. Kidney stones are composed of one of two minerals that occur other places in nature. The first possible mineral is aragonite....same as pearls, same as aragonite sediments in the Bahamas....all calcium carbonate. Depending on the size of the hospital bill, they could indeed be 'pearls of great price'
The other mineral occurs in only one other location in nature. It's calcium oxalate, known as whewellite. The only other locale it occurs in besides kidney stones is at volcanic outgassing vents. Strange irony there, too.
The other miner
