Hi Unjonharley,
It ain't gloom & doom, just logical predictions based on current trends and events. I personally have nothing against Sparkle Ponies.

Re: Predictions for Burning Man 2015...
STEP will no longer be used, in fear that BMORG and scalp their tickets to for Profit-camps again, regardless of what BMORG says they have changed this year(if they even do).
Veterans will pull excessive pranks on the RV heavy rows if no change is made or is present and/or the rich will have learned their lesson this year and abort for-profit and step up their game big time such that billionaire row becomes a heavy art/camp attraction in 2015 from the RV park of 2014.
People always say to have no expectations about BM when going, and with the current state of affairs this year, it seems we have no choice but to have low expectations...come on BMORG, step up your game and slam it out of the park! keep the spirit of BM alive!

Re: Predictions for Burning Man 2015...
All the artists and makers and volunteers will attend the real Burning Man—the one that happens in the week leading up to the public one—just like they always do. The only difference is in 2015, they'll pack up and leave on the first Monday of the public event rather than the last.
May your deeds return to you tenfold,

A renegade Cacophony Society-esque non-organization will form to culture jam at Burning Man, pulling elaborate pranks that confuse and frighten the Commodification Camp drone types and delight veteran burners.
First Camp, aka Entitlement Camp, will be one of their first targets.
Paul Addis was ahead of his time. RIP.

Paul Addis was mentally ill. And remember what happened when he got caught. You're not thinking too clearly on this yourself.alt12 wrote:A renegade Cacophony Society-esque non-organization will form to culture jam at Burning Man, pulling elaborate pranks that confuse and frighten the Commodification Camp drone types and delight veteran burners.

Plus he tried to set a cathedral on fire. Even his suicide was public. I'm uncomfortable making any sort of hero of him. We're lucky that the only person he hurt was himself. And it was all very tragic. If nothing else, he sets a standard for dismissing people who disagree with the way the event is run. "Elevator didn't go to the top floor with Addis, you've got to be crazy to disagree with management."Elderberry wrote:Paul Addis was mentally ill. And remember what happened when he got caught. Re: Predictions for Burning Man 2015...
My prediction?
My prediction is that nothing is going to change. The key hole camp fiasco, board members gaming the system, gouging of participants under the rubric of bullshit vehicle fees, etc., etc.
The brouha over entitlement, packaged tours costing thousands of dollars and tiered access driven by money and influence by those who have it will have all subsided. Those sitting up in the castle will rest assured - quite correctly - that that flames of indignation will have all but died down and by the mid-summer business will be back to usual. The metamorphosis of the event into a collective pit of hype-fueled pablum will continue. It won't be overt. Certainly nothing radically plate shifting but the slow, incremental tectonic slide towards mediocrity is assured.
On the bright side people who still hold onto the ideas (and ideals) of the original event will continue to coalesce into smaller gatherings such as the ones we see happening all around the country and other parts of the world. Hopefully they'll have learned hard cruel lessons from the playa and make a great efforts to insure these small gatherings will not become a blighted parody of what was once a Great Thing.
That's what I predict.

There's no way that it could beat the Golden Calf piece from 1995.
Someone found a completely dessicated calf that had slipped and fallen into one of the pools up around the double hot springs closer to the actual Black Rock. They took the carcass back to camp and paraded it around like some found sacred idol complete with the pall bearers wearing hooded cloaks and chanting a funeral dirge. All they needed to do to take it over the top would have been to spray paint the thing with gold paint.

The Man: No legs, waist placed directly on the playa. Made from welded steel girders draped with old tires. Head is DJ booth crewed by Dancetronauts.
Tickets: You buy a raffle ticket and the winning numbers are announced at Will-Call, must be present to win.
Vehicle Pass: Program is extended to require a pass for each bike brought into the event
You forgot to mention the tollbooths to gain entry to the esplanade. All proceeds will be used to support ....ahem....low income tickets.
People who bought pre-sale tickets and also donated more than $1000 to the ORG will get to use the fast pass lane upon entry & exodus.
And of course DEA drones with night vision.
Seriously though......
I predict that no matter what, I will see amazing art, meet fantastically creative people, & make new friends to share a great week in the desert with.
While there will be people that don't embrace the 10, or even any of the principals, people who live in exclusive private islands on the playa, weekenders who show up for a few days & change the vibe. I won't let them, bad weather, or a zombie apocalypse affect my burn.
2015 will be as GREAT as you make it!
