Might as well get this party started!

Established in 2005, Anti M's Home for Wayward Art is a place for small art, medium art, amateur art, but especially Bad Art, Lost Art, Found Art, Art which Needs a Good Spanking, and of course, Wayward Art. This is not a gallery, it is more like juvenile detention for art, an orphanage, a half-way house for misfit art. All art in the Home is up for adoption, all the prospective new parent needs to do is fill out a small adoption form and clip it to the Home in place of their newfound art darling. Art may also be committed to the Home, just put it securely in place and say good-bye. While the emphasis is on visual art such as paintings, drawings and photos, other mediums such as sculptural art, jewelry, and trinkets found their way into the Home to be scooped up and loved. Costumes, MOOP, food, and your abandoned sign too bulky to haul around are not within the parameters, thank you. If you are donating many items, do leave them in the back, in the shade structure with a note.

Why? I love to paint, I love to do miniatures, I love to give things away. Based on the concepts of art and gifting, I came up with the Home. Why Bad Art? While I am quite good at miniatures, I am not always pleased with my products. I also glean art from thrift stores and friends and family and yard sales. Some of the most fabulous donated pieces have been dumpster diving finds.

Basically, you drop by the gallery during daytime hours. See art you like? Follow the instructions and adopt it. Forever. Have art which needs adopting? Leave it hanging (securely) on the Home, or bring it around back to me so I can curate it. This is NOT a take one leave one deal. You want art? Have some.

Non-moopy sturdy art is best. People leave me heartfelt cute little on the spot drawings all the time, and those suffer badly on the Home. Makes me sad.

Is it possible to enquire about the fate of an item sent to you for re-homing? I know not everybody fills out those adoption cards, but if someone did, I'm really curious as to their reasoning.

Yeah. Who fell in love with those velvet village paintings that had skeletons floating down the river? Or the crudely done creepy clown .

The cards are still out in the art box. I can look through them, but the problem is adopters do not always leave a good description or tell us the name of the art. Now and then, they don't even do the card.

I still do not have the cards from last year in an album. Finding 500 slot photo albums is really becoming difficult. I do not want to scan them all, or "scrap book" them. Argh. I do not want to go to a register either. Sigh.

It's index cards, I think 3 by 5.

Yes, 3x5. I find them in thrift shops, yard sales or ebay now, none of the craft shops carry them anymore.

I don't suppose that you can get the pages and just add them to any album...

Photo pages rarely fit random albums. I did find some online, so I guess I should get a few all at once. Last year's cards are in plastic bags on the floor, this year's are still in the art bins.

I got the 2013 cards into an album and off my kitchen floor. Found albums which hold 504 cards. I had 691, as usual, about a dozen without any clue as to what the piece was. I put the extras in a bag and clipped it into the front of the album.

Now I have to go get the 2014 cards out of the bins on the patio. Yep.

so far ive got two pieces painted for you. I'm on the look out for a large frame for one, and the other needs some sort of box cover. It has paint chips/cardboard pieces/jewels glued on that i'm afraid will come off out there without protection.

Can't really see the chips and their texture/thickness. I'm thinking like a shadow box maybe.

A shadowbox would look amazing, but they are not inexpensive, depends on her size. I have a few small ones, I think.

You could always go with industrial cling wrap. I wrap my paintings so the paint does not stick together. A couple of yours did stick, they'd slid out of their wrappers. Wax paper and breadbags are good protection.

What kind of materials you are pasting on your art taramakay. Is that indegenous?

But anyway it looks good even the face is broken.

Her face was painted on the back of a pizza box, the pearls are from a busted necklace, and the color stuff is what you scrape off your plastic plate when you are done painting and it dries.

And it is what my brain feels like since I started painting, knitting, and dyeing silk. Thanks angela, doc and barbie death camp for getting me started down this road!

I've been cleaning out my garage over the past couple of weekends. Tidying up so I can have enough space to work on a couple of art projects intended for the space around my camp or the playa (should I be so lucky).

My sister decided to add to my garage.....by dropping off a few pieces of art from a failed business venture she started in the summer.

In this box of random stuff, were two fiberglass stingrays. A small one (perfect for transport) about the size of a large serving dish and the other about the size of a small coffee table.

I've started to sand them down to get them in good shape for priming. They are totally ridiculous. I cannot think of why she bought these. (It was a tropical themed restaurant....in Victoria BC)

So taking my baby sister's disappointment, and one more notch of her life experience belt, and all her good intentions of her wanting to be her own boss (who doesn't) these silly stingrays were demanding transformation from the dusty lifeless painful reminder that we don't always get what we want; into something...ANYTHING else.

I'm painting the small one with geometric shapes in bright primary colours with acrylic, glaze, inks and mica.
I'll also be adding some small mirror shards (safely sanded) to add reflective light to the curves to its eyes.

I thought this might a perfect project for the Home for Wayward Art. The piece is small enough to pack in a car, it's pretty flat (the tail might cause some issues, but I think I have a solution for that if need be)


Anyways sorry for the giant ramble...I'm on the bus heading to work and I was thinking about what I was gifting this year, and it occurred to me that I wanted this piece to find a good home too.

Bottle caps work well as paint also. Flatten them with a hammer and then use them like pixels. A stingray would look awesome done up in caps!

TK that's a great idea, I've never worked with bottlecaps before - might have to give that a go! Thinking something pared with BC driftwood. A bit of ocean coast art meets industrial reclaimed metal. Wheels in my head are turning.

here's the Stingray in progress - still laying the first coat so it looks grainy and splotchy in its transparentness (so a word)
There's still many more layers to deepen the hue and shadows to lay in and some highlights and the mirrors. So plenty more work be done. But here's stage one! (I hope sharing the progress is alright!)

It's very silly. But I'm having a lot of fun laying the base. It'll be bright and garish! I've picked up some Indian Shisha mirrors to drill in and inlay into it's body to represent the white spots that Manta Rays have.

It's complete! just waiting on clear topcoats to dry.
Wetness is causing some glareback and shape warping in photos - but it's high gloss...so I doubt it will settle much when dry

It was a fun art project Can't wait to see it dusty!
