Thanks Emily.
In 2003 I was driving for a flatbed trucking company in Reno. I took her with me on a trip down to Pasadena, CA to deliver a load of foam insulation. From there I went to Riverside for a load of steel to take back to Reno. Two nights I stayed in the sleeper and several times during each night she would start head butting me. I never knew why. I guess that's proof cats don't like change.
Just one of the memories I have of her. :D

Shadow, better known as Stinky. Our last holdout from Pennsylvania went to kitty heaven this morning.   We knew we were going to lose her. She'd been losing weight and getting frail for the last several months. She ate this morning, a few hours before she passed away. We would've had her 15 years this coming December. We're guessing she was 17 years old as she was about two when we found her as a stray.
The vet wanted to put her down three years ago because of her age at the time when she suffered a broken jaw. I'm glad I spent $800 and got up at 2:00am every morning for two months to tube feed her so she could have another three years.
Hope we gave you a good life.
RIP Stinky
((((((((thecatman )))))))))

I KNOW how you feel, bro. My current cat, Kate (a.k.a. Katy-cat or Kitty-kate) broke her jaw a number of years back when a tool box fell on her. Rather than put her to sleep then, I spent about $600.00 for surgery and fed her with an eye dropper filled with food for two weeks while her jaw was wired shut. She moved up quickly to soft food, and now, she's eating the hard stuff again. You did the right thing, helping Stinky in her time of need.

Katy is 13 or 14, and is a pound rescue kitty. It may damn near kill me when we finally part ways.

Stinky broke her jaw after getting in a tussle with our Australian Cattle dog.
Like your Kate, the vet wired Stinkys jaw shut as well, cut a pencil size hole in her throat and sent a tube into her stomach. Outside the tube was crimped and taped behind her neck. It was crimped so air wouldn't get in her stomach. She, the vet, said if Stinky doesn't start eating on her own within eight weeks, she won't make it. Her body will start rejecting the foreign objects: the wire in her jaw, the tubes.
Going into the 7th week the wires started coming loose and she ate a few pieces of dry food on her own. I called the vet and she said "Stop tube feeding her. She knows what she has to do". If I continued tube feeding her she would become accustomed to it even though her body would reject it. The tube was left in for another week just to make sure but Stinky continued eating on her own. In a few days the wire was almost out so the vet removed it but left the tube in for a few more days and eventually the tube was removed. Acutually she broke her jaw in April 2010 so it was more like four plus years she lived.

Thank you, thecatman. That means the world coming from you, a fellow cat fancier. Speaking of the pound, I visited there tonight, and put my name in the box for adopting a new cat. Katy may be gone, but never forgotten. She would want me to take care of another cat in the same way, saving it from a poor life in a cage, and bringing it to my home that's filled with love for a new animal.

And a new cat needs to own me, too.

While we've never gotten one from the pound or a shelter, six of the ten cats we've had we took in as strays. The other four were given to us. Three as kittens, one as an adult.
One of the strays I found at work on April 28th of 2009. Named him Gizmo, barely a month old at the time. Hard to belive he's gonna be six come late March or early April. I'll try to put a picture of him and the rest of my menagerie on the pet thread.

I went to visit another shelter tonight. I think I may have found 'the one'. Her name is Starr. She may soon be the star of my life at home. While I was at the shelter, I went ahead and made a donation, too. We shall see, catman, we shall see. I pick her up tomorrow.

One bittersweet moment today, though, that has me a little bit upset. A long-time friend with Arizona's DOT passed away In May, and they're just now publicizing it to our group. His name was Nick, and he was a geologist for AZ DOT. He was 72.

**takes his hat off and holds it in both hands**

Here's to you, Nick. You done good. The people of the state of Arizona drive on safer roads due to your many years of involvement with them. I'm proud to have called you 'friend'.
