Outside the gate ruled! Waited 20 hrs or so give or take, the anticipation of all those lost souls was exciting. Props to the dudes that set up the wait in line dance party for 12 plus hrs.

Outside the gate was it's own experience.

Yup, I was fortunate enough to just leave pavement when entry was shut down and became a denizen of the gravel for all too short a time........ and the impromptu "Camp Purgatory" at the turn between gravel and entry was a memory I will take to my deathbed.

Life lesson learned, although your burn starts when you leave pavement it's more a question of mind location rather than physical.

In 2013 (and maybe this year too, I really can't remember) there was this totally cool chill space out in deep Playa. There was this tall (maybe 8') wall, that completely surrounded an inner area that had white shag carpet, and these long pieces of fabric hanging down from the ceiling. You were required to take off your shoes before entering, and most people were laying down.

I didn't find it until Sunday of the event, which was a bummer because those are the areas I like to spend long periods of time in, rather than the big sound camps. Plus if you are a little north of sober, they are a great place to meet new cuddle buddies.

Yea Trilo, Thievery Corp is one of my top 5 (groups? DJ's? Whatever you would classify them as), and I missed them when they were in my town. And it wasn't until that day that I heard they were going to perform on Playa so it really was special.

This was also the first year I was part of the setup and breakdown team, and was on Playa for 3 weeks. Pre event and post event is amazing, and next year I would like to be out there for a full month.

I love Burning Man, I love the music, the art, the interaction... but most of all, I love working the lanes in gate.

So many excited people pulling up to me with huge bundles of excitement under the skin... and I get to be the guy that sets the tone for their week. I know it's a stereotype for Gate to be surly and mean... but unless you try to run over me with your car, I'm all about having fun. So many people would pull up nervous, and I'd get to be like, "Yeah, you are camping in the middle of a stupid desert that is actively trying to kill you with tens of thousands of other misfits. You should be nervous." with an evil smile.

I'm going to miss it this year. I just got a new job that probably won't give me the time off. It'll be my first year off after four in a row, two with long-term EA. :(

Aww, Ano, I hope you get lucky and get to attend anyway.

Maybe they'll let you do a partial, or take unpaid leave (if that's feasible). Maybe you can take on some work from someone who could later cover for you. (I don't know your field, but . . . )

I went to college for (useless liberal arts major), and I work totally outside of my field, as an admin assistant. I was a receptionist at my last job, and I'll be doing more of the same at this one. The vacation policy is strict here and based on seniority. The good and positive side of it, though, is that it's in Oakland, and enabling me to finally move to the Bay Area, which I have wanted to do for awhile. Finally out of stagnant Sacramento and into vibrant SF Bay Area. Very excited to be living in Oakland. I've been out there for 2 weeks for the past two years, so I have no idea how I'll cope, to be honest. It's my "thing" that I do every year... but... so it goes.

If anything, I'll try to attend for the weekend and leave early Sunday. Who knows.

Sorry for the drift!

I also love those moments at Burning Man where you're sitting in the deep playa, just watching the city going by, getting those occasional fits of mad laughter when you realize, "Yeah, it's happening again," as Burning Man unfolds in a cacophonous orchestra around you.

I agree, the rain was awesome! Put some contractor bags on my feet, tied 'em on with zip ties and went exploring an almost empty playa.

This one time at Burning Man….
It rained, and considerable amounts of water accumulated on the four horizontal sections of shade-tarp above the bus. A couple days later a good wind came up and lifted a tarp, dumping the water on an unsuspecting visitor. Rain from blue sky!

The burn is always a wonderful vacation.. My camp mates are the best, and I know I could never go there without them.

Meeting Sunbeam (where is she) and the whole group there was awesome! Reconnecting with Maryanimal always gives Me a smile. Even though I only spent a few minutes at the meet and greet, it was great meeting Geospyder and Rhino!! I would have stayed longer, but that was My issue. May try it again.

Still haven't met ygmir, sadly. Next year, I will post a note on his firetruck so he can find Me when/if he has time. I enjoy reading how much he is loved from this group.

The rain, sun, dust...sharing meals, laughing, spending time at the temple....so many fond memories, already looking forward to 2015.

Thanks for this group, while I may not post often (feel like the step child) lol....I do read every day to stay informed!

Happy thoughts:
Meeting MSJ and her merry band of (very well-disciplined!) rabble-rousers.
Seeing Sunbeams grin after being gifted a hot shower by this very same bunch.

The things that stick out in my mind all involve friends. Old and new. Sitting and talking, chance meetings, gatherings, errands, dates, Impromptu parties. Next year I want to hug more eplayans and see some art. (I forgot to go see art.) MSJ it was great meeting you at sunbeam and greycoyotes. It's all about the people. That neighborhood rocked with Elliott, Figjam, Unjohn and Maryanimal.

I liked visiting with Elliot, GreyCoyote, Sunbeams and co. I took American Boyfriend to meet Elliot after he had some unhappy naked times on the playa and it turned out he and GreyCoyote had a whole bunch to talk about.

I also liked making a new friend from my hometown, Sydney, that was pretty great.

And biking around the playa at night looking at art.

How can anybody be unhappy while enjoying the breezes of BRC all over one's skin? Did I get him straightened out?

He's always happy when he's naked but other people weren't super happy with his nakedness. The visit was definitely a positive :)

Well, I seldom leave camp in the nude, partly because I know there are people who prefer I don't.
Now... I feel there is a big difference if the person is wearing a good outfit or costume that just happens to be "not safe for work". I don't know this for a fact, but I have seen some people in fabulous artistic outfits where "full frontal" was either just "right", or totally incidental, and I have trouble believing that anybody other than fanatic prudes would object.

Anyway.... Anyone who wants to "practice" going nude is always welcome in my camp, where I try to set a good example.

And now I need to stop drifting this thread.

Which brings us to... something I really liked about Burning Man last year (2014). And that was the absence of moop. I walked moop patrols all over my neighborhood streets every morning, and I was amazed at the "lack" of moop. Sometimes I felt almost disappointed, because there was so little for me to accomplish. So three cheers and a tiger to 70,000 moop-concious Burners!

Jeez Elliot, I appreciate your drift as I was wondering what they did not like about him being nude.
