Zowies! 800 buckaroonies
Anyone going for it? That's one whole ticket for the price (plus some) of TWO!

Re: Zowies! 800 buckaroonies
Speaking personally...when the pre-sales jumped up to $650 a couple years back, I thought it was not only a good idea but felt it probably could have been higher last year. If someone's got the means and is willing to pony up to get their ticket early, let 'em.
If it was me though (and clearly it's not), I would have just gone to a $400 ticket price for everybody (or whatever increase it would have required) and eliminated the pre-sale. When that program was first created it put tickets under the proverbial tree for the holiday, and gave Burning Man a needed early-season cash infusion (back when ticket sales revenue streamed in over the course of many months). Now, the individual sale is done in under 24 hours (last year took only 42 minutes), so all the ticket revenues come damned near instantly.

Re: Zowies! 800 buckaroonies
It turns out I do have a limit after all.
It might not bother me if all the excess was "subsidizing" the low-income tickets, but it's not.
Of course if it was August and I was without a ticket, I would be fucking thrilled to buy an $800 ticket.

Well since buying them doesn't stop you participating in the direct group sale if you're invited or the main sale you could just buy Presale to be sure you've got them and then sell them if you manage to get cheaper ones right? From what I remember last year right after the main sale Presale tickets weren't hard to sell.

Re: Zowies! 800 buckaroonies
Scratch my earlier comment about if it was up to me I'd skip the spendy presale tickets altogether. By my guesstimations if it was all averaged out that'd work out to a $440ish ticket price. Let those with the means help soften that blow.

The official line is that the presale tickets offset the cost of the low income tickets. But the maths works out at them getting twice the extra income from the presale as is required to cover the costs of low income tickets.trilobyte wrote:Scratch my earlier comment about if it was up to me I'd skip the spendy presale tickets altogether. Personally I'd prefer to see the full amount of extra cash from the presale go towards low income tickets but it's only 4000 tickets, that's less than 6% and it's open to anyone so I'm fine with it. If people can afford it, and there are plenty of not "ultra rich" who can, than good luck to them. I think for anyone planning on coming from overseas the extra $400 to have your plans locked in early is totally worth it.

The official line is that the marginal additional revenue from the pre-sale tickets goes to fund the pre-sale tickets. Each pre-sale ticket generates $410 in marginal revenue, or $1.64 million.Jovankat wrote:The official line is that the presale tickets offset the cost of the low income tickets. With low-income tickets at $190 (8000 of them) that's $1.52 million, or about 92.6% of the marginal revenue from the pre-sale tix.

You would think that if someone buys a ticket for $800, they could throw in a free car pass at least.

There's only 4000 low income tickets though. Also the $190 is what the buyer pays, the discount amount being covered by the borg/presale is $200. That comes to $800,000 leaving $840,000 unaccounted for.DrYes wrote:

They're both entirely legitimate words in the British/Australian vernacular. I'm not going to argue with you about it in this thread. But I'm also not going to change the way I speak/type for you seppos.

Re: Zowies! 800 buckaroonies
Me and my husband talked it over last night and we are going to buy two presale tickets. Last year we also purchased in the presale.. This may be our last year for a while.
I've been overspending this Christmas, and I'm now kicking myself in the ass for it! We are not wealthy people. So this weekend I'm going to be sitting down with our finances and robbing Peter to pay Paul. Or more appropriately said robbing them both to pay Burning Man!

I have gone out to find myself. If I get back before I return, Please keep me here until I get back. Thank you!

Just so I understand the process:
1. On sale day, just before said sale, log into your "burner profile"
2. then what? Is there a magic button that shows up to purchase? If 40k tickets sell out in 42 minutes, I need to be on my game.

Log into your profile and register when that opens. Then on sale day log into your profile again and keep hitting refresh until the button shows up. Then hopethe servers don't crash and your credit card is good. Visa or MasterCard only last year.
If you don't have one of those, get a prepaid debit card and get it set up and registered ahead of time.

This is what I figured. I created our "profile" a long time ago, and filled out the information.
So excited, will be our first burn and prep has been under way for months. Just need to get through Christmas, then its game on!
