Good afternoon, bar! I hope everyone's enjoy a merry happy whatnow and those who are traveling are doing so uneventfully without hangups or weather-related nonsense. Here on the west coast the sun reared its ugly head recently, and is rumored to keep doing that for a few more days at the very least.

With my girlfriend having recently broken her ankle, I've been busy in a lot of completely unexpected ways... but waiting on the one you love hand and (literally) foot isn't so bad. She had a followup doctor's appointment yesterday, and things look good so far. Fortunately the break wasn't in the main bone that carries the majority of the weight, and it's a clean fracture in as good a spot as there is if you have to go and break your ankle... so she won't need plates or screws or followup surgeries... woohoo! The cats have also been doing their part, making sure one or the both of them are laying on or next to her as much as possible. I also got to make pasta sauce for her for the very first time, and that worked out really well. We cook for each other all the time, but she's italian/sicilian so when it comes to making sauce the most I've ever done in the time we've been together was cook with her (which is a lot of fun). I'd gotten some fresh raviolis from our favorite little place at the local farmer's market, and since she's off her feet and barred from the kitchen I took the opportunity to do a nice slow-cooked sauce for her. We had a nice bottle of wine from a campmate that I used in the reduction, and we enjoyed a few glasses of that, and it turned out to be a pretty great meal.

Today's off to a crazy start - where's my vodka?

Bravissimo, Trilo!

You want to really make her happy, try frying some of those ravioli in olive oil until they're golden brown, sprinkle sparingly with parmesan cheese, and then serve with your marinara sauce.

Deep fried raviolis are a St. Louis delight I'm not afraid to share with anyone! They are wonderful and addictive.

Yep, because if you're not clean they'll do it AGAIN.

Thanks, but this isn't my first rodeo man, I'm already quite familiar with toasted ravioli (been making them for a couple decades). I've known toasted ravioli as "Italian nachos" since I was a kid - they're awesome, but a whole different kind of thing.

Evening, Bar!

*pours a drink*

Got one more batch of bourbon fudge to cut & wrap and then I am done *whew* and this is the earliest I have ever been ready for xmas. Delivering goodies tomorrow (well, shoot, today? Xmas Eve), an early dinner with the in-laws, and then *whew* hoping for some new sweatpants under the tree because, it's going to be that kind of a day. 8) 8) 8)

(((Trilo))) my very best, I know it's hard, and hard to adjust to such a sudden drastic change in your daily routine. :| Life can change in an instant...

MORNING ALL!!
Kinda quiet here at 01:15am. Yeah I'm pounding the coffee trying to stay awake for another hour since I got put on night shift again starting December 24th. As I've mentioned, I don't mind the shift, it's just the transition period.
Hope everybody has a nice Christmas Eve and be safe.

Hi Catman, MDF and BVB. Great picture, BVB. Looks like you got the real image of those underground tennis courts. Must figure out how to download that and add it to the others you have made that I have on the wall of my office here at home.

Now into the NEB for another couple of hours of shuteye. Maybe find LF and MDF lurking about in there. ((((((((((((())))))))))))) ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz

YAY, I just figured out how to download the image of the underground tennis court that BVB posted. Another victory by this old guy over modern technology. Trilo must be smirking. Thanks, BVB, will print it tomorrow and up on the wall it goes with my collection of other great BVB creations!

I've had them in St. Louis frequently, and of all places, in WYOMING.

There's a little steak restaurant in Union, Wyoming called Svilar's. It's old coal mining country. Story goes, Mama Svilar used to serve four raviolis, toasted, on a plate to miners who would come in hungry for a steak after their shift while they waited for their steak to be cooked. The tradition continues today. Svilar's was once graced by the Wall Street Journal columnist Calvin Trillin for a review of their food, which he considered to be one of the best steaks in the U.S.

The annual dinner for geology students from Camp Branson (operated by the University of Missouri, and winner of the 2014 'Best Field Camp Award" from Exxon/Mobil) in Lander is held there, and the legend continues.

Morning, all!!! (((Marty))) let's have some :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

The holiday goddess got me this year and won't let me go. I jumped out of bed early like I was shot from a gun and started cooking again, prepping for tomorrow's meals so I can lie around all day with my new toys. 8)

A bit of relaxing today would not be wrong! Still too spun-up though. Hoping for a chance to see my brother before I throw an oyster dish together for the in-laws this afternoon. Yikes. Okay. Deep breath...

Good Morning Dear Bar !

recipes all over and I will likely not do it the same
funny , my son when he was young was overheard to say , "sorry, my mom cooks her own way"
now he does also.

Everything changed overnight .
12 year old Bella has a fever , cavorting in the water at Muir with her friends ..showing off her excellence surfing
that is way more important than Christmas..I agree, and told my daughter so.
Christmas is every year, 12 going into fabulous is once.

So, allowing for the changes I continue ..

Happy night to all of you dear ones.

WARNING! THIS MOVIE REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!

I just finished watching (and I swear I am not making this up) The Interview. Yes, here it is Xmas Eve and it hasn't even hit theaters yet and I can check it off my list. So here is my review:

First off, yes, it was very funny. It was also very homophobic, racist, and offensive to almost everyone. But it did contain a few seconds of nudity, mostly in a scene where Kim and Skylark (James Franco) are doing shots with a bunch of bimbos. There is also plenty of drug use, including but not limited to cocaine, exstacy, pot, and mushrooms. The movie had Lizzie Caplan in it (she's better in Masters of Sex where she's topless in most every episode) but she kept her clothes on. In the end, Skylark gets a puppy. I think it may have been a spaniel. So if you like lots of butt jokes and things getting shoved up Seth Rogan's ass, Koreans getting blown to smithereens, over-the-top anti-Asian racism, and a quick shot of tits, you'll like The Interview. And like I said, it even has a puppy.

Three empty wine glasses for the Xmas movie that almost wasn't.

Rhino, I think St. Louis claims credit for "inventing" them, though I think it's more a case of it being something italian families have been doing for ages but it finally made it onto a restaurant menu there in the 40's or 50's. Regardless of where they came from, they are a great hors d'oeuvre (horsey doover!). Even with the standard raviolis they're great, but when you start playing around with some of the more exotic fillings or different types of sauces to dip 'em in, you can have an awful lot of fun with them. We had a really good chocolate version a couple years back, I can't remember where. Since we'd gotten the pasta-making attachment for our mixer we tried making chocolate ravioli once and it didn't come out as well as we'd hoped, we'll figure that one out someday.

Doc, woohoo for nudity and decadence. I've got a friend who does some kind of contracting work with Sony Pictures and he'd told me the movie was pretty lousy. Well, as he described it 'standard fare Rogen' with a really extended death scene (I think at the time he saw it, the actual death was more than a minute long and significantly more gruesome than what made the release). I may check it out, I like some of Rogen's stuff and what's not to like about nudity and decadence? Good or bad, I'm glad they didn't cave to either NK or the disgruntled former employees (or whoever was behind the hack).

Regardless of denomination or holiday orientation, I hope everyone's having a wonderful week. Also, heads-up, I'm going to blow up the 2014 bar on New Year's and then we'll start the 2015 edition. We probably should have gotten that done when we did all the 2015 board stuff a couple months ago, but it got missed for whatever reason and this is the next opportunity to start the new chapter.
